I always wondered how it would feel to embark on my very own Pokeadvenure. The packing montage, the slow pulling down of the obligatory baseball cap, and the zipping up of my gilet. The hug from mom that sets me on my way to Professor Oak's lab for more preparation and the choosing of Squirtle (obviously Squirtle) as my first Pokepal.
Now I need wonder no more, or I say we, Pokefan, because Pokemon has landed on Oculus Rift! Well, in the form of a unofficial demo...but a guy can dream, right?
In tipatat's The Unofficial Pokemon VR Alpha Prototype (catchy title), you're given the chance to be amidst the excitement of a battle between Pikachu and Magnemite. Using Leap Control and Voice Control, you can pick up and throw Pokeballs and instruct your Pokesized warriors to kick Pokebutt for your Pokecollecting Pokedesires! Here's the vid for you...
Yeah, okay so the game mechanics are a bit on the rusty side and the battle animations aren't plentiful, but think of the potential! Imagine with me, an actual virtual reality Pokemon game... how ridiculously awesome would that be? Or, dare I say it, a Pokemon on the scale of Skyrim or Dragon Age: Inquisition where you roam the wilderness for days and months, searching for fully realized HD Pokemon. Oh, the dream.
If you are the proud owner of an Oculus Rift headset and a Leap Motion Controller, head off to the demo's website to give it a download and, more importantly, learn how to play the thing! If you're unfortunate enough not to own any of the above, head back to your 2/3DS' and dreams. Nothing to see here, folks.
Except for the future of catching them all!
