At the time of my writing this article, I have approximately 12 hours to wait before The Game Awards 2014 kick off and unleash all of their prizes in store for millions of players! Aside from getting to see what they believed was the best game of the year (Dark Souls II anyone??) we'll be getting some new announcements and trailers for game likes Blooborne and The Order 1886!
We'll be granted the esteemed opportunity of taking a deeper look at some of the games we can't wait to play in 2015. That's if Metal Gear Solid V will actually be released in 2015...it will right?? Anyway, let's see what we have in store!
Meta Gear Solid 5 at The Game Awards 2014
Our favourite Game Director, Hideo Kojima, will be there in person to unveil the online element of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This introduces something to the franchise that's been missing since June 2012. At the time of release for MGS 4, the online component for that game was actually sold as a separate title in Japan, though we were luckily bundled with both.
It featured online multiplayer for up to 16 players across a variety of modes that included deathmatch, team stealth, capture and rescue. MGS V is sure to incorporate modes such as these in the revival of Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence was the first title to feature an online addition to the series, though I personally have never paid much attention to it. Was I wrong to not invest more time in MGS Online?
So what kind of multiplayer landscape can we expect with Kojima's game? Are we in for something like we've seen with GTA V? I doubt we'll all be pulling up in a horse and then racing each other...would be interesting if they gave us guns with that though!
Will we perhaps all get to plan out how we will infiltrate a base together, using various techniques and requiring each player to perform a specific task to carry out the mission. Or...you know...just scream "LEEEROOOOY JENKIIINS" and destroy the whole effort.
Naturally this aspect of the project won't be as dense as the campaign, and I also feel like it's responsible for the lack of a released date, but Kojima really could make it work! What kind of multiplayer landscape would interest you? What would you like to see Kojima incorporate into the Metal Gear Solid Online system? Let us know in the comments!
