One of the biggest things Marvel fans have enjoyed talking about over the past few months has been Adam Warlock's cocoon Easter Egg in Guardians of the Galaxy. Funny thing is, the Easter Egg isn't what people think it is.
What I'm referring to, of course, is the cocoon housing Adam Warlock that can be seen in The Collector's...eh...we'll call it his macabre, alien museum.
At a Q&A last month at Marvel Studios, James Gunn talked a little bit about the cocoon and it's significance in the MCU. According to Gunn, the Easter Egg was not meant to introduce the character of Adam Warlock.
"They asked me what I wanted in The Collector's scene, I flipped through a Marvel anthology book and picked out a bunch of cool things." - James Gunn
After the Q&A I got to sit down with Gunn and ask him to elaborate a little more on the Adam Warlock speculation.
James Gunn is sticking to his story. According to him, the cocoon meant nothing. Personally I find it hard to believe that a director as detail-oriented and savvy as Gunn would just randomly toss this into the background. I have a sneaking suspicion, despite Gunn's denial, that this might be intentional...that we could see this cocoon again before long in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some fans are even speculating that Adam Warlock could end up being Star-Lord's father. That's an amazing theory that I'm personally all for! Unfortunately we'll all just have to wait and see. But fear not, James Gunn is a brilliant talent that does nothing by accident.
