The 1976 horror film The Omen is being turned into a Lifetime network straight-to-series. This is a bold attempt by the network to take a new direction away from female centered programming and taking a swing at a male-centered drama. According to Deadline, the series will take place years after the events in the fist movie, and focus on Damien Thorn's life as an adult.
The six-episode sequel series Damien will be produced by Fox TV Studios and written by Executive Producer Glen Mazzara ( [The Walking Dead](series:201193), Hawthorne) and directed by Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth).
We're used to seeing Damien as a child, looking like this...
Or in the 2006 remake, more like this...
And looking slightly more grown as a teenager in the 1978 sequel Damien: Omen II...
So who has been cast to play this adult Damien? None other than Bradley James who played Arthur on BBC One's [Merlin](movie:1074817)!
While grown, his character still fails to understand the satanic powers that he holds and the demonic forces around him. Throughout the series he must come to terms with his past and his predetermined role in the world - being the Antichrist.
Sounds pretty interesting! It will also be interesting to see if and how they introduce romance into his storyline. But more importantly, I can imagine plenty of scenes of him riding a bicycle around. Remember what happened the last time you rode a bike carelessly, Damien? Do you?
I'm not sure how this will all pan out. Especially given the fate of their latest drama series [The Lottery](series:1186156). But the premise is pretty awesome, so I'm willing to give it a chance.
[Damien](series:1435935) is set to air in 2015.
