Dingo Pictures was an animation studio based in Germany that was active in the 1990's. The studio was simply a husband-and-wife team consisting of Ludwig Ickert and Simone Greiss. It was one of the more infamous animation studios of its day. Why? It made traditionally animated knock-offs of films that were mostly made by Disney. The studio was not only notorious because of that; it was mostly because of its really cheap, beyond-believable animation, lifeless voice acting, repetitive dialogue, crappy character designs (compared to the cover art of their movies), and the fact that in possibly all of their language dubs ONLY THE TWO PEOPLE MENTIONED IN THE SECOND SENTENCE VOICE ALL THE CHARACTERS (sometimes only Ickert or an unknown Dutch guy does so)!
These cartoons were also dubbed into English and other languages. Many of them were released as video game movies for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 (although the only "games" on these movies were puzzle and coloring book segments).
I'm going to talk about a film from this studio that was a very blatant knock-off of The Lion King, one of Walt Disney Pictures' most successful films of the 1990's. The knock-off I'm talking about is Son of the Lion King.
I know what you're thinking; the cover art looks very promising. I must warn you, though; the animation doesn't look very promising AT ALL! Don't believe me? Check out the first part of the movie below. You'll see.
It seems that most of the character designs in Son of the Lion King were stolen from The Lion King. For example, a lion cub resembles Simba when he was a cub, while another lion stole adult Simba's character design. The movie was made in the 1990's, but the animation looks like something from the early 1960's. This is done using cel animation, and this animation is so crude that, in a sense, it makes Mike Judge's The Honky Problem look like Pink Flamingos; in saying, the movie is absolutely UNWATCHABLE!
As I said, the voice acting in this thing has only two people, a man and a woman, voicing all of these characters. If this movie had famous stars for its English dub, they would immediately receive Razzies right away!
If you or your kids are fans of The Lion King and its sequels, please, don't get more out of it by watching Son of the Lion King. I suggest you watch the clip above if you want to know why.
