No big surprises this weekend at the box office as we go into the post-Thanksgiving slump. Holding on to #1 for a third weekend is "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" with another 21.6 million as it steadily climbs towards 300 mil cume. Keeping up as well at #2 is "Penguins of Madagascar" with an extra 11.1 mil. Gaining is "Horrible Bosses 2" with another 8.6 mil but this comedy is quickly fizzling out unlike its predecessor. Dropping down to #4 is "Big Hero 6" with 8.1 mil as it slowly makes its way to a possible 200 mil cume. Rounding off the top 5 is "Interstellar" with 8 mil. Continued mixed word-of-mouth keeps this on the top 5 as well as having award buzz.
New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as we only had one new movie! Showing up in the #9 spot is "The Pyramid" which earned 1.4 million, well below expectations but at the same time, not surprising.
New movies next week:
Two new movies this coming weekend and this should sort of re-launch the rest of the year. Opening on about 3300 screens is "Exodus: Gods of Kings" by Ridley Scott. This is an epic scale film but not sure if it will bring in an epic scale gross. Estimated north of 25 mil, potentially it could hit just shy of that but the legs on the film could be stronger than its opening. In semi-wide release (just under 1000 screens) is the comedy "Top Five." The film may play well to urban audiences but might lack some crossover. Likely to open under 10 mil.
