Hey, movie-goers, hasn't it been a great year! Well I know it's not entirely gone yet; but as far as movies are concerned, it is. And I mean, let's be honest, the image above does say it all.....Marvel properties absolutely dominated the box office this year. So today I am going to countdown my favorite five films for the year, and explain why a little.

5. Transformers: Age of Extinction

Paramount
Paramount

Okay, going into this film, I wasn't expecting a lot. I mean this is a Michael Bay film so when you boil it down, lots of things are going to go boom!! But there was one really big reason I wanted to see this film..........Dinobots!! (See above) I'll admit though in the trailers, the dinobots were the drawing card; and if you've seen the movie, you know they are not there until almost the end. But this film was entertaining enough, so what the hay!

4. The Amazing Spiderman 2

Columbia Pictures
Columbia Pictures

I really enjoyed this film. I mean the visuals of this movie were great. I loved the chemistry of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). This films sits at number four because, even with the "amazing" chemistry of Andrew/Emma, they alone cannot carry the film. The main villain, Electro, needs more character development. It is possible to fit more than one villain in a film and it work, but Sony/Columbia has yet to figure it out. I did love Electro though; Jamie Foxx is a funny, witty, and great actor all around.

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past

This film was great from start to finish; in fact, I find little to nothing to critique with this film. The story was a superb adaption of the comic that gave the film its name, while fitting into the universe of the previous films. It was also great to retcon most all the old films for the simple fact, they had so many problems. I especially enjoyed the period factor of the film. And who didn't love the Quicksilver sequence!!

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Numbers two and one in this list were extremely difficult choices for me. The Winter Soldier was the first live action film I had ever seen in theaters (and 3-D at that) and I could not have chosen a better film I think. While the plot details leaked led us to the conclusion that HYDRA would be the root of all evil in this film, I was still surprised. I also knew who the Winter Soldier was from the comics, but again, at every turn, it seemed Marvel and the Russo brothers were surprising me.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

The definition of awesome!!
The definition of awesome!!

Ok! I grew up a Star Wars fan, so subconsciously I think I judge every space film by its standard. But consciously I realize that Guardians is not Star Wars. The characters are very different. I loved the comedy factor to this film: I mean the sequence where Peter steals the orb, that made the whole film for me. Again as with the previous two, I have nothing to critique on this film; it was awesome. Every element: space, the talking tree, the trigger-happy talking raccoon, all of it was epic!
