Did you enjoy Christian Bale's Batman from [The Dark Knight Rises](movie:39011) and the trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan? Well, don't expect to see Bale getting back in the role any time soon... or ever for that matter. He was quoted saying that the dark and stoic Batman he and Christopher Nolan perfected for the trilogy won't be seen ever again in any universe.
I recently wrote about how Bale wasn't exactly stoked that he wasn't even approached by Warner Brothers about reprising his role for [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870), but there is further news from an IGN interview that Bale did recently.
"When I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour"
I'm sorry - I just pictured Bale staring into space like that for 30 minutes and had to chuckle. But yeah, I could imagine you put all that work into three highly successful and career-defining movies and it doesn't just go over easy to see someone else take the role of the character you once were.
"[The Dark Knight is a] character that could have kept on going and going and going," Bale said. ”It was right for Chris [Nolan] to finish it where he did." He added, “It was appropriate to leave at the right time.”
When he was asked if Batman would end up in some other universe he said,
"And ours doesn't belong in any other version at all."
So, Bale pretty much laid it out. He won't be throwing the suit on ever again. Sometimes you just have to stop. I do think there is the possibility of over-saturation with any character, even if the director/actor combination is as great as the Nolan/Bale one was.
