The cast of the upcoming [Suicide Squad](movie:2283363) movie by DC Comics was announced and here at The USN, we're not that impressed.
As it stands the cast is as follows:
Will Smith as Deadshot. No, no, no. This is a miscast as any we've seen. When we initially saw Smith's name attached we got excited figuring he'd be playing Bronze Tiger. Tiger has been a long attached team member of the Suicide Squad and often times a sympathetic character when compared to most of the scum on the team. But smith as Deadshot, nope. Jai Courtney would make a better one.
Jared Leto as Joker. Not only was the Joker never a member of the team, but Jared Leto has some massive shoes to fill after Heath Ledgers chilling performance in The Dark Knight. Our issue isn't with the casting of Leto, it's that the Joker is on a team. The DCU would never place a criminal of Jokers magnitude on a team let alone set him loose in the world. Batman would never allow him to leave Arkham. Bruce Wayne would ensure the government doesn't touch him. The typical deal the government has with Squad members is in exchange for their work and cooperation they will get reduced sentences. Now with the numerous evil acts the Joker has committed there's no way they reduce his sentence. Bottom line, the Jokers involvement makes no sense whatsoever.
Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg. No problems here.
Jai Courtney as Boomerang. Not bad casting we just feel Courtney is better suited to play Deadshot. Then they could cast Sam Worthington as Boomerang. He could really bring some of that creepiness to old Digger.
Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Again not bad casting.
Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Meh.
Now the Amanda Waller casting rumors have linked Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer. We'd go with Angela Bassett, she's already played her once before (albeit in the horrid Green Lantern movie) and could give more with an expanded role.
We'd replace Joker with Count Vertigo (played by David Tennant), and add in Nightshade (played by Kristen Bell) and Dr. Light (played by Peter Stormare). Overall, not bad casting just a few tweaks here and there and we think it would be so much better.
