It has now come to fruition. "Harrison Wells" is the Reverse-Flash. I think somewhere in all of us, we truly knew the horrible truth that Harrison Wells is indeed the Reverse-Flash. We just didn't know why, and we didn't know from where. Well now I have two theories on the motivations of the Reverse-Flash. First though, let's take a journey and look at two of the three Reverse-Flashes that have been tormenting our Heroic Speedsters since their conception.
Hunter Zolomon. Meta-human profiler, crippled by Gorilla Grodd, and gained access to the speed-force via cosmic treadmill accident. He is one of the scariest Reverse-Flashes because he believes he is a hero. He believes he is doing the Flash a justice by following in the footsteps of Eobard Thawne. He wants nothing more but to make [The Flash](series:1068303) a better hero. Our only problem is he is historically a Wally West villain, not a Barry Allen villain. He actually reveres Barry Allen and wants Wally West to surpass him. He even decided that Wally West wasn't a great flash like Barry Allen because he never suffered a personal tragedy. He tried to kill West's wife but failed. His wife also was severely hurt in a car accident, though that was not her cause of death. He also has the power to not necessarily run fast, but slow time down so it seems like he's a speedster. He has worked together with Eobard Thawne (time traveler) to become a better Reverse-Flash.
Now, Eobard Thawne's story is a little bit different. He was born in the twenty fifth century and is a genius and also a bit of a psychopath. He will constantly travel back in time to kill people who get in the way of his perfect plans. He is obsessed with the flash, but more importantly obsessed with the speed force. He got ahold of a cosmic treadmill and went back in time to meet Barry Allen. Instead he didn't go far enough. He actually went back to just after Barry Allen was killed and Wally West was the new flash. He went to the flash museum and found out that he, eobard thawne was destined to be the Flash's greatest villain. He felt like he was so close to Barry Allen, he was obsessed. So this drove him insane. He pretended to be Barry Allen for a while, but Wally found out who he was, and tricked him into going back into his own timeline. He was left powerless with no recollection of his trip, but he happened to retain a deep and long lasting hate for Barry Allen.
Now, here comes my theory about what writers of The Flash have done to Harrison Wells and Eddie Thawne and the Reverse-Flash.
I think they thought it was way too obvious to just completely rip both of the reverse flashes off straight from the comic books. I think they wanted to mix it up a bit. I think they took a few of the core things that made Zoom who he was in both iterations and kind of, REVERSED them. ;D I think that Harrison Wells is a mixture of both Reverse Flashes.
I believe Harrison Wells shares characteristics of both Zooms. First let's see what's in common with Eobard Thawne.
- He's from the future
- He's a habitual time-traveler
- He's obsessed with the future being the way he sees it
The characteristics he shares in common with Hunter Zolomon are
- He has ties to Gorilla Grodd
- He believes he is doing the Flash a justice
- He is willing to hurt the flash by killing his loved ones to make him better
- He is obsessed with making the Flash the best hero possible
- He reveres Barry Allen and believes he is the most important creation
- He claims he lost his wife in a car accident
So now my friends, we have motivation!! Harrison Wells, just like Zolomon, believes that Barry Allen wouldn't be the Flash he is if he didn't suffer a personal tragedy. So even though he cares for Barry, he deems it more important that his mother is murdered by him so he will spend his life becoming a better Flash. This is explains why he beats Barry to a pulp. He wants Barry to want to beat his mother's killer. So he will do whatever it takes to be above the level that the Reverse-Flash is on. Thereby, becoming a better Flash. This lines up with what we know about him so far. The touch of the wheelchair even pays homage to the comics when Zolomon was in a wheelchair. Now, on to Eddie Thawne. He's not safe, my fellow flash watchers. He will also become a Reverse-Flash. I think that's why Wells didn't touch him.
I think that he will also become a Reverse-Flash. He will also share characteristics of both Zooms.
- Because of the Flash assaulting him and Iris eventually leaving him, he will have a deep Hatred for Barry Allen
- He will do anything in his power to hurt Barry Allen
- He now knows about meta-humans and will become a meta-human profiler
That's all I have so far! What do you think! Be sure to tell me in the comment section! I really wanna talk about this! See you in January, fellow speedsters!!!
