With [The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies](movie:512312) opening in cinemas in just one short week (!!), Entertainment Weekly magazine has handed over reporting of the movie to one of those most capable fans of the saga - Stephen Colbert.

Yeah that's right Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report is an enormous Tolkien fan, so much so in fact that he can read Elvish and even starred in [The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug](movie:512310) in the pivotal role of "Lake-town spy." Check him out here:

For Entertainment Weekly, Colbert got to live out some more Middle-Earth dreams, when he dressed up as some of the main characters for three different collectors edition covers.

Taking on the roles of Bilbo Baggins, Legolas, and Gandalf, Colbert was lucky enough to wear the original costumes and wigs which were flown in from Wellington, New Zealand - something that they didn't even do for the actors!

Colbert's take on the characters is a bit more jovial than we see in The Hobbit films, but definitely just as enjoyable, take a look:

Bilbo Baggins

There's something about Colbert's animated eyebrows that just make Bilbo look thoroughly untrustworthy with that ring.

Legolas

Legolas' day at the beauty salon!

Gandalf

This one is definitely my favorite: You shall not pass!!!
