Today on the rumor mill: Stephen Strange is coming to town! There's been speculation floating around here on Moviepilot that we may see the good doctor on the big screen much earlier than his 2016 standalone film debut, and if this rumor is true, expect an uprising... of fandom.
According to The Inquisitr, there's a reason that the casting announcement for Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and the confirmation of [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) reshoots took place so closely to each other: we're going to see a cameo.
... [it would be] more likely that Benedict Cumberbatch will have his debut in Captain America: Civil War. This is still only speculation, and Cumberbatch could still debut as just a “nameless” surgeon in the Avengers: Age of Ultron reshoots.
It's more speculation than anything, but Cumberbatch seems to be a big fan of Marvel, having stopped by the studio before. He's close friends with a lot of Marvel actors and employees, so it's not out of the realm of crazy to speculate that we might see Strange pop up earlier than planned.
Another possibility is that Doctor Strange, or just Stephen Strange, will be in the post credits scene in the upcoming Avengers film. Something similar was done last time with a character we didn’t see again until Guardians of the Galaxy: Thanos.
It's not out of the realm of possibility, for certain, and Marvel has been great at setting up characters beforehand as it is. I wouldn't be surprised if we got more of that going into Phase 3, as the universe grows much larger.
