aired its midseason finale tonight, and some mysteries were solved. The most important of this mysteries was the origin and real name of Skye (Chloe Bennet), now agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as her mysterious father, “The Doctor” (Kyle MacLachlan).
WARNING! MASSIVE SPOILERS for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Seasons 1 & 2.
So, Skye is...
If you watched the midseason finale, you can now confirm that Skye is, in fact, Daisy/Quake – and that her father is Dr. Calvin/Mr. Hyde. The first confirmation came in a pivotal scene where Skye is first reunited with her father. The Doctor introduces himself as “Cal” (Calvin Zabo) and, at the end of the conversation, casually drops Skye’s TRUE name, “Daisy.” Unless there’s another Cal/Daisy connection in Marvel lore, then Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has officially introduced Mr. Hyde and his daughter, Quake.
In the comics, Daisy is called “Quake” for a good reason: she possesses the ability to create seismic vibrations (i.e., earthquakes).
Here’s some more extensive comic book background on Quake, predicted some months ago by screenrant.com:
As a teen, Daisy found out that the Mr. Hyde formula actually gave her seismic powers; she was identified by Nick Fury and groomed as a secret weapon for him to employ. When Fury left S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy (or “Quake”) led his team of Secret Warriors (other illegitimate offspring of superpowered characters) against Hydra. After that she was appointed head of a reactivated S.H.I.E.L.D. by Steve Rogers, and also joined The Avengers. As of late Quake has gone underground, hooking up with Winter Soldier and Mockingbird along the way.
In the comics, Daisy’s powers are the result of super serum used by her father – but obviously in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it’s something veru different.
By bringing the character of Quake into the MCU, the AoS showrunners (and larger Marvel Studios creative minds) have quite a lot of lore to play with. Skye/Daisy could one day lead S.H.I.E.L.D., command a squadron of superpowered covert agents for Nick Fury, or even become a full-fledged Avenger.
But there's still a question remaining...
Who Is Skye’s Father?
Skye’s daddy is named “Cal” and that is no doubt a reference to “Dr. Calvin Zabo,” a.k.a. Marvel’s Mr. Hyde. Here’s a bit more about the character, courtesy again from our friends from screenrant.com:
In the comic books, Hyde is actually Dr. Calvin Zabo, a gifted scientist and chemist who developed a formula that transformed him into a Hulk-like monster. As a fan of the classic story, Zabo took on the name of Mister Hyde. The villain has since been part of everything from The Masters of Evil to the battalion of street-level villains serving under gang leader The Hood following the Marvel Civil War schism.
I don't know you guys, but I am really excited about the future for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!
