As a long time fan of the Star Wars films and universe, one who is eagerly looking forward to the forthcoming new chapters in the space saga, I decided to pay tribute to the Star Wars films of my childhood in the form of a behind-the-scenes pictorial montage.
The montage consists primarily of photographs taken on the sets of the various Star Wars films, and it also includes dialogue from scenes in the actual films or interviews of the actors. As you will see throughout the tribute, there is a clear focus on the original trilogy. This came about in part as a result of my preferences for those films, but it was also due in larger part because those films simply had the most engaging behind the scenes photographs available.
Once I began the process of gathering the photographs, I quickly realized there were so many great moments captured that even using only a quarter of them would make the video unwieldily and most likely unwatchable. As an admitted Star Wars geek I would have loved to have used most of the photographs I was able to locate, however as a practical matter I knew that was not to be.
Arriving at what became the final 45 photographs used in the video was the most difficult part of the project. Needless to say there was a lot of internal debate about the choices being made and why. However, at the end of the day, I was very pleased with the result. It was undeniably a true labor of Star Wars love.
The montage is set to Dare to Dream Big, which is a wonderful musical composition courtesy of The Secession. The tribute has received tremendous support on Vimeo, and an elegant write-up by Stephen Sumner of OpHuMod.
I hope you enjoy the video, and thanks so much for watching. May the force be with you...always!
