While attending the Marrakech Fest, where he was honored with his third Career Tribute, actor Jeremy Irons (Race) very briefly discussed his role as Alfred Pennyworth in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Irons wouldn’t divulge much about his upcoming role as Bruce Wayne’s right-hand man in the big-budget Batman v. Superman, but called his Alfred "not a large role" due to the many characters in the Warner Bros. film. "He is quite a different Alfred than we have seen so far. Zack Snyder had very clear views about what he wanted," he said. "I would just say he's more hands-on perhaps than just a butler."
Ever since it was announced Irons had been cast as Bruce Wayne's faithful butler in the Man of Steel sequel, we always pictured his take on the character to be similar to the version portrayed in Geoff Johns' Batman: Earth One. Now, with Irons admitting his Alfred will be more hands-on perhaps than just a butler, perhaps this IS the version we'll end up seeing when the film lands in theaters come 2016.
For now, however, we wait.
Now in post-production, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot and Amy Adams. It arrives in theaters in March 2016.
