As any fiend with a smartphone can tell you, Gotham was directly inspired by a New York Jewelry shop called....wait for it.... "Gotham Jewelry"! Seriously! And Gotham was actually a nickname used by New Yorkers back in the Late 19th Century and Early 20th Century. So it's not really a debate that the original influence to Gotham is New York. (Gotham, the TV show is actually filmed in New York)

In recent times we've seen Gotham filmed in Chicago and New Orleans. Batman v. Superman is being filmed partly in Detroit currently. Well the question isn't if New York was an influence, it's which city really represent's Gotham? So lets go through the rap sheets!

  • 1.) DETROIT (Yes Bv.S is being filmed here)

According to Forbes

Population: 713,239

Violent crime rate: 2,137 per 100,000 residents

The Motor City tops the list of America's Most Dangerous Cities for the fourth straight year thanks to a stubborn problem mostly with gang-related violence. Violent crimes -- murder, rape, robbery and assault -- fell 10% last year but are still running five times the national average.

As You can tell it's not exactly the best place to grow up.

  • 2.) ST.LOUIS (My Hometown)

According to Forbes

Population: 320,454

Violent crime rate: 1,857 per 100,000 residents

Lying directly in the path of major drug-trafficking routes, St. Louis has been plagued by murders and other violent crimes for years. The crime rate fell 4% last year -- and it's down 50% from the crack epidemic days of the early 1990s -- but St. Louis still ranked fourth in the nation for murders.

Besides the Imo's Pizza ,Toasted Ravioli, and Ted Drewes its a place you can totally get shanked.

According to Google

In 2011 there were 16,761 crimes in New Orleans including 200 murders, 163 forcible rapes and 14,013 property crimes. With a murder rate of 57.6 per 100,000, New Orleans had the highest murder rate of any U.S. city with a population of 100,000 or more in 2011 and ranked 21st in the world.

It Definitely has potential to be the real deal Gotham. Comment and tell me what city you think is the best choice.
