More details of [The Walking Dead](series:201193) companion series have emerged after a savvy Reddit user posted information about the show potentially filming in California!
The series, which has been codenamed "Cobalt," had been rumored to be taking place in Pennsylvania, but that rumor has been called into question after Reddit user KiddMicks posted this photo of a flyer that was handed around his Los Angeles neighborhood:
We are currently scouting for film locations in your area for the new television series, “Cobalt”. If you are interested in having a television show film at your home, please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss the details.
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon!
Even though the paper doesn't look exactly AMC official, the name of the Location Manager, Ted Kim, definitely does check out. Kim has worked as Location Manager on shows such as [Dexter](series:200541), [Parenthood](series:749533), and Prime Suspect, and it looks like his latest project will be "Cobalt!"
Of course even though the series seems to be scouting LA for locations, it's still possible that AMC intends to shoot the majority of the show in Pennsylvania as was rumored, perhaps after the pilot has been shot. However there's no doubt it would be very, very interesting to see a show based on the West Coast.
This latest detail adds to the growing list of information we have about the new series. Have a look at what we know about "Cobalt" so far:
It will be in the same universe as The Walking Dead
The creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, has stated that "Cobalt" will give us new information about the zombie apocalypse. He spoke to E! Online, saying:
There are many corners of 'The Walking Dead' universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of 'The Walking Dead,' and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them.
Basically "Cobalt" will take place in the same universe as The Walking Dead, but will show us more of the unexplored aspects - which sounds totally awesome!
Cliff Curtis will play the male lead
New Zealand actor Cliff Curtis will play the male lead, a man named Sean Cabrera. Cabrera is described as a divorced father and teacher in his early 40s who is "a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life."
Sean Cabrera's female counterpart on the show will be the as yet uncast Nancy Tompkins, a thirty-something guidance counselor and single mom, "Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her."
Nancy's two kids have been cast
There have been three teenage characters confirmed for the show, Sean Cabrera's son Cody, and Nancy Tompkin's two children Nick and Ashley. The roles of Nancy's children have already been cast with English actor Frank Dillane (Harry Potter) playing Nick Tompkins and Australian actress Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) playing Ashley.
If the descriptions released by TV Line are anything to go by, the three teenager characters will definitely bring a range of personalities to the show. Cody Cabrera is described as "Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town." Nick Tompkins as "Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee." And finally Ashley as "Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge."
There will be another Andrea
Apparently one wasn't enough, and in "Cobalt" we will be getting an Andrea 2.0! This new Andrea, named Andrea Chapman, sounds a little different to the original Andrea from the series and has been described as "a somewhat wilted flower child, forty-something Andrea has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage."
While there is no information on when they will start filming the series, it seems like we could probably expect to see "Cobalt" joining AMCs fall line up for 2015, which is great news for us fans who can't wait to learn more about The Walking Dead universe.
