Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released for Xbox One and PS4 hopefully in late 2015, but more than likely in 2016. On this yet to be revealed release date, will we be able to play KH3 as Donald, Goofy, Riku or Lea?!

Our adoration for the Kingdom Hearts series seemingly never falters. The E3 trailer literally moved some fans to tears, and we seriously cannot wait to see what they have in store. Square Enix have reported that the title has run into some issues along the way. The team working on the project was initially halved, as the other section were working on Kingdom Hearts 2.5.

The transition to Unreal Engine also slowed down the production of the game, as the team had to learn how it functioned and adapt all of their previous work to run on it. While this is not exactly heart warming news, it is a joy to know that Kingdom Hearts 3 is on the way and now running with a full team. But what will it have in store that's different, could multiple playable characters be an option?

Kingdom Hearts 3 - Play as Donald, Goofy, Riku or Lea

Multiple playable characters has become a recent trend in gaming, though of course it has been around for many years. GTA V and Dragon Age: Inquisition are the latest examples, the former lends the option to receive special abilities as different protagonists in Los Santos, where as the latter changes the combat mechanics entirely when a new character is selected.

If multiple playable characters was to come to the world of Kingdom Hearts 3, would it interest us? And in what capacity would it work? Should a Kingdom Hearts game only be played with a Keyblade in hand?

Take the image above for example. Imagine that the bottom corner actually displayed the three separate characters that you could play as, rather than just how Donald and Goofy are doing stats-wise. Goofy and Donald have their own fighting styles and choice of weapons, could this change really improve upon the dynamics of Kingdom Hearts?

The option to change up your style of gameplay in Dragon Age: Inquisition for example, lends the option to suddenly transform how you play the title half way through the campaign. You can suddenly decide that you want to play every fight as Iron Bull and his warrior class for the rest of the game!

If this came to Kingdom Hearts, it could really improve upon combat situations, allowing us to change the dynamics when we so choose. Rather than following the style of GTA V, where each character is the protagonist of the game in their own right, Kingdom Hearts 3 would focus upon Sora being the protagonist and the other playable characters would merely serve as spicing up combat.

Goofy and Donald are you main companions, but imagine if this could actually transfer over to Riku and Lea too! Would this be too strange for you, do you want Square Enix to stay with Sora as the only playable character? Which character would you like to play as the most? Let us know in the comments!
