Even though they might die by the end of the film, a truly great movie villain will live on in our memories far longer than any of their heroic counterparts. Some of the most iconic villains in film come from the brilliant action films of the '80s and '90s - Con Air, Lethal Weapon 2 and Under Siege just to name a few. But what are they up to now?

Take a look at what some of the most iconic villains of all time are doing after the demise of some of their most villainous characters:

Stansfield a.k.a. Gary Oldman

Who was he? Gary Oldman played Stansfield in 1994 movie Léon: The Professional. Stansfield was a corrupt, psychopathic DEA agent who guns down an entire family except for a 12-year-old girl, Mathilda, who later has her revenge.

Where is he now? After portraying one of the best villains ever, Gary Oldman has had a wildly successful career. Some of his most famous recent roles include Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series, Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and Dreyfus in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. In 2012 Oldman was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

T-1000 a.k.a. Robert Patrick

Who was he? T-1000 was the shapeshifting robot assassin who was out for blood in the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Where is he now? Though it remains his most famous role, Robert Patrick has had a steady career since his villainous days in Terminator. In 2005 Patrick appeared in Walk the Line, and in Bridge to Terabithia in 2007. Most recently you probably caught him in True Blood as Jackson Herveaux, or in the new TV series Scorpion.

Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom a.k.a. John Malkovich

Who was he? The villain in the sky, John Malkovich played the evil criminal Cyrus in the 1997 film Con Air. Cyrus hijacked a plane, intent on flying it to a country with no extradition charges, but unfortunately his plan went astray and he ended up with a crushed head.

Where is he now? John Malkovich is another villain who has had a hugely successful career, including acting, directing, producing and even designing! In 2002 he launched Mrs. Mudd, his own fashion company, for which he helped design his own fashion line. In recent times he has starred in films such as Burn After Reading, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and in the TV series [Crossbones](movie:757700).

Hans Gruber a.k.a. Alan Rickman

Who was he? The feared German terrorist in 1988 film Die Hard. Gruber was the mind behind the Nakatomi Plaza heist. The plan, however did not go to plan and Gruber ended up dead by the end of the film.

Where is he now? Since Die Hard, Rickman has played a number of villainous characters including Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series. His latest roles were as King Louis XIV in A Little Chaos and Hilly Kristal in CBGB.

William Strannix a.k.a. Tommy Lee Jones

Who was he? The rogue and mentally unstable CIA agent, Strannix took over the nuclear capable USS Missouri intent on selling the nukes on the black market in the 1992 film Under Siege. In a struggle at the end of the film Strannix fires two warheads at Pearl Harbor but savior Casey Ryback manages to kill Strannix and save the harbor from destruction.

Where is he now? After his foray to the darkside, the good guys won Tommy Lee Jones back and he went on to help save the world as Kay in the Men in Black series, and Colonel Chester Phillips in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Arjen Rudd a.k.a. Joss Ackland

Who was he? The evil Minister of Affairs for the South African Consulate, as well as smuggler, had 'diplomatic immunity' in Lethal Weapon 2. Unfortunately, his diplomatic immunity was unceremoniously revoked with a swift bullet to the head.

Where is he now? Ackland is still acting, though his most famous roles were all filmed around the same time as his role in Lethal Weapon 2, such as Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (which he now says he regrets appearing in), The Hunt for Red October, and The Mighty Ducks. Recently he played Professor Mendella in Prisoners of the Sun, and Rufus in Decline of an Empire.
