Every time you open a gossip rag, you're immediately confronted with sordid divorce rumors and endless stories of celebrity relationships in turmoil, but some Hollywood stars are enjoying long and fulfilling relationships under the radar.
Some of the world's most famous stars have been happily married for decades, and below are a selection of celebrity partnerships that prove life long love is possible!
Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman
Danny Devito has been with his wife, Rhea Perlman for over forty years. The pair met on January 17, 1971 and had moved in with each other within just two weeks of meeting.
DeVito and Perlman separated in October 2012 after 30 years of marriage, but they soon realized that being apart was not the answer and they reconciled in 2013.
Perlman and DeVito have acted alongside each other in many movies (including playing the loathsome parents in the children's classic, Matilda) and have three children together.
Denzel and Pauletta Washington
Denzel Washington has been married to his wife, Pauletta, for thirty-one years and they have four children together.
The pair met on the set of the TV sitcom Wilma in the early '80s, and they have been partying, laughing and loving together ever since. But what's the secret to their success?
According to Denzel, there is no special formula. When asked about his three decade long relationship, the actor explained that:
There's no magical mystery. We go through up and downs like any couple
Christopher and Georgianne Walken
Christopher Walken married casting director, Georgianne Thom, all the way back in 1969. The pair never had children, but they have been together for almost half a century.
Despite playing a plethora of eccentric characters, Walken himself claims that he's a conservative homebody who enjoys spending time at home with his wife more than anything else.
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick
Kevin Bacon has been happily shacked up with his wife Kyra Sedgewick since 1988. The pair met on the set of a PBS version of Lemon Sky. The veteran actor explained that meeting his wife gave him the strength to carry on through difficult times:
The time I was hitting what I considered to be bottom was also the time I met my wife, our kids were born, good things were happening. And I was able to keep supporting myself; that always gave me strength
Bizarrely, Bacon and his wife are also very distantly related (9th cousins, once removed) which just goes to show that the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" idea isn't as far fetched as it might seem...
Samuel L. Jackson and LaTanya Richardson
Samuel L. Jackson has been married to LaTanya Richardson since they met at college in 1980. They have one daughter together.
Their 34 year long relationship hasn't always been plain sailing, largely thanks to Jackson's problems with drugs and alcohol in his younger years, but the legendary actor explains that they got through their relationship woes with patience and tolerance:
We’re both very tolerant. We’ve had big fights and those moments when it would have just been easy to walk away, but fortunately I went on location or she went on the road doing a play or something and then we forgot about it
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness
Hugh Jackman met his wife Deborra-Lee Furness on the set of the Australian TV show Correlli in 1995 and the loved up pair have been married for nearly twenty years.
Jackman claims that he knew Furness was "the one" just two weeks after first dating her and was desperate to propose to his soulmate as soon as possible. The Wolverine actor explained:
It was early on for me when I knew she was the one - I want to say two weeks into dating. But I decided to wait six months before asking Deb to marry me. After about four months I realized six months was a stupid rule, so I asked her. I never knew anything with as much surety as knowing Deb was the one
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
Tom Hanks married actress Rita Wilson in 1988 after meeting her on the set of the Bosom Buddies a few years before.
The actor converted to the Greek Orthodox Church in order to marry his devoutly religious bride and is clearly still totally smitten after 26 years of marriage.
Last year the actor opened up to Ellen and told audiences about his harmonious relationship with his wife:
I'm not one to suck up to the audience, but the only thing we argue about is who loves each other more
Hanks also credits Wilson for helping him in his acting career. He explained that:
I view my wife as my lover, and we have a bond that goes beyond words like wife or girlfriend or mother. For example, I was able to construct a number of things in 'Philadelphia' because of my relationship with Rita.
The way my character felt about his lover is the way I feel about mine. The same was true when I played Forrest Gump, who loved Jenny. Without my connection with Rita, I don’t know how I would’ve been able to connect with what Forrest was going through
