We all know and love Watchmen. Well, we all know Watchmen. It's that amazing and brilliantly loyal graphic novel adaptation that re-introduced violence and other such adult themes into the superhero genre. We were all fed up with our kiddy superhero films and this offered a brilliant alternative. For me it's up there with the dark knight on the greatest superhero films of all time. Speaking of the dark knight, remember that new batman vs superman film that's coming out? Well, is there an Easter egg left on Watchmen that we've all ignored? Yes, yes there is.

Easily one of the best parts of the film is the into, although the whole thing is solid but the fight between the masked assailant and the comedian, leading into that amazing montage to Bob Dylan's the times they are a changing. It is art and it pains me that I never got to see it in the cinema. So, let's talk about that opening.

One of the first things we see is an opening shot of night owl punching a man with a pistol in his hand. Pretty standard, right? But the attack is happening outside Gotham opera house and we can see what looks like a scared couple and their child near the stage door. It looks to be the Wayne's but as we all know, Martha and Thomas died in that attack but do they in Synder's universe? I know that Watchmen takes place in an alternative 1985 but what if [Man of Steel](movie:15593) and Batman vs Superman is in his Watchmen universe? That would be amazing.

Batman will be older in the new film so his parents could have died some other way but this is interesting because it opens up a new and interesting back history for the bat and change his motivation. It's possible this was just a nod to Nolan's trilogy but let's not forget that Synder likes to play around with a hero's origins, such as in man of steel. He even kills Zod. So I think it's entirely possible for Synder to making his own Batman universe and it sounds like he's going to make an interesting set of movies.

Perhaps if it's set in an alternate universe, we can see an [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) scenario and all the characters not in this new universe can erase it. Getting rid of Jessie Eisenberg and Batfleck. We can only hope. See you in 2016 for a review of [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870)
