This is real. Russian investigators closed the case stating that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths. This game is based on a horrific supernatural murder mystery - almost like a real world Blair Witch Project.
The rescue expedition is being sent. They find the tent, which is cut from the inside. Students bodies incompletely dressed are found within a radius of several hundred meters. Everything points to some kind of event that caused sudden panic leading to the tragic, chaotic escape. In most cases, death occurs as a result of hypothermia, but some bodies have other strange signs of damage. The player is thrown into the area where the tragedy occurred years after the actual event with a chance to discover the real course of tragic events.
Kholat is an adventure-horror game inspired by a true event known as the Dyatlov Pass incident – mysterious deaths of nine Russian hikers, that led to countless unconfirmed hypotheses. Players will dive directly into boundless scenery of the inhospitable Ural Mountains with the task to find out what really happened.
The Dyatlov Pass incident was a real story that happened in winter of 1959. Nine skilled alpinists went for a trip to the northern part of Ural Mountains, which ended fatally. The bodies of the crew were found scattered on the slope of Kholat Syakhl in various states of horrific mutilation and deformation as if twisted by forces unknown to this world.

Kholat is a game focused on experience and storytelling, largely by means of visual medium. In order to provide the best graphics quality possible, Kholat uses the Unreal Engine 4.
“The Light is On” Trailer below shows the initial game location – the town of Ivdel. It’s where the actual story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident starts, as well as the first place witnessed by the Kholat protagonist. Wohoo Games put in a lot of research efforts into recreating the environment as close to reality as possible. A good example is the accurately recreated Ivdel Train Station – a place where the ill-fated train carrying the Dyatlov group arrived on the 25th of January, 1959.

Sean Bean Hits the Scene!
Lead narrator of Kholat, is played by one of the most famous British actors - Sean Bean!
Sean Bean is an actor known for many notable roles including Boromir in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Ned Stark in the drama television series [Game of Thrones](movie:817617).
Working with an amazing actor such as Sean Bean was an overwhelming experience. He came up with an incredible mix of emotion, drama and intrigue in the creation of the role. We are beyond satisfied with the results.
This Is a Real Horror and Now You Can Be Lost in Its Evil
The incident happened on the east coast of Kholat Syakhl, whose name in Mansi means "Mountain of the Dead." The game will release on PC in the summer of 2015. There will be so much more to come regarding this title, but we just had to share this one with you a little early!
