367 more days until the release of Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens! Or only 528571 minutes left!
But while I wait for what is most likely going to be the greatest film of 2015 besides [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035); there's some things I can do to keep me occupied. First I can watch all the previous Star Wars films, yes even the prequels. Then I can go ahead and play some Star Wars video games like Lego Star Wars and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Then, since "Tis the season", I'll go ahead and listen to some nice and relaxing SW Christmas music.
But that's still not enough! I still need something else to do while I wait for the long-awaited space opera sequel! Oh, I know! How about my favorite pastime activity? Theories and speculation! Here's 5 things we can (possibly) expect from the new Star Wars film!
1. New Planets
One of the most wonderful things about Star Wars is that it's more than just a film series—it's a universe! An endless number of planets filled with strange inhabitants are within the universe of Star Wars, and much more than half of them have yet to be discovered! This is because when making something as grand scale as Star Wars, you can create as many planets as you want! This means that there are still undiscovered planets out there; filled with strange creatures and potential threats for our heroes to overcome. J.J Abrams proved in Star Trek and its sequel Into Darkness that he's pretty good with handling films with expansive universes, so hopefully in The Force Awakens he takes some creative control and expands the Star Wars universe a bit; I would love to see more strange planets filled with bizarre creatures. Just don't make them too bizarre. We don't need another Jar Jar Binks, we're still trying to get the first Jar Jar to leave our memories!
2. A trip to Mos Eisley
Mos Eisley is a spaceport located on the planet Tatooine, a planet heavily rumored to be returning in the new Star Wars film. Mos Eisley is home to the Mos Eisley Cantina, the bar where Han Solo may or may not have shot first—depending on when you saw the film and what version you picked up.
With the adventures almost certainly making their way to Tatooine, it's incredibly possible we'll be seeing the Mos Eisley Cantina again! Hopefully with some memorable music from the Mos Eisley Cantina Band. It'd make for a great nod to the previous films if 'Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes play that popular song (you know the one).
3. New Technologies
The events of Episode 7 will be a good thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi. This obviously means that time has changed. And just as time has changed, technology no doubt has as well. We've already been given a hint at just how much tech has progressed in the trailer.
But I doubt that technology has only gone so far as upgraded Stormtrooper guns and TIE Fighters; there has to be more right? I think so. After all, with most of the Jedi Masters gone and the Force apparently having a long hibernation, people couldn't rely on Jedi to save them any more. Save them from what exactly? Well, just because the force isn't there doesn't mean that the empire or the Sith have been sitting down on their evil behinds. The rebels will no doubt upgrade their weaponry to gain an advantage against the empire. In turn, the empire will upgrade theirs. But be prepared to see much more than just upgraded guns; TIE fighters, AT-AT's and even speeder bikes will no doubt get a major overhaul in Star Wars Episode 7!
4. A new generation of Jedi (and maybe Sith too)!
Luke's role in the new film hasn't exactly been specified yet. But given his age and Jedi skills (which have no doubt excelled through the years), I believe he'll most likely become a Jedi Grand Master. Meaning he'll most likely take on many apprentices, and might even be the principal of the all new Jedi Academy! This means we'll see a whole new generation of Jedi, though they'll all have a setback. If the force truly is dispersed, they'll have none of the amazing Jedi powers that their predecessors had.
The empire most likely has been training new Sith as well. These will too be inexperienced with the force, so the new wave of Sith vs Jedi should be pretty even right? Well maybe, after all the Sith are pretty crafty with the dark arts. And everyone knows that the dark arts are always more crafty than the light ones. Just think of the evil plans they're concocting? What weapons they're constructing to use against the rebels! We might even see more cool yet impractical light sabers when the film comes around!
5. Darth Vader!
Though I strongly doubt Anakin Sywalker himself will be in the new film, being incredibly and undeniably deader than a doorknob, there's a rumor that the main antagonist, or perhaps some other evildoer will don the iconic Vader mask; wreaking havoc and spreading fear throughout the galaxy!
There's even a rather strange rumor that Luke Skywalker, the golden sun of the rebellion, will turn evil and wear his father's mask. Though I don't think Luke would be interested in the family business—especially after everything him and his friends have done to battle the empire. But maybe the stress of being a hero led him towards the dark side.
But with how strange and un-explainable the world of Star Wars is, Anakin Skywalker returning is not what would surprise me. What would surprise me is Disney's decision to bring him back. Bringing back the real Vader sounds cool, but to me just sounds like poor, lazy and predictable storytelling. I mean we all saw him die. So bringing him back and having some excuse like "I wished upon a star" or something like that would be a bit annoying. Luckily, Disney seems to know what they're doing.
So that was the top 5 things we can expect to see in [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158)! What do you hope to see most?
