Gaming critics have mainly given their fair share of positive feedback for the recently released first episode, Iron From Ice, of the [Game of Thrones](movie:817617) video game by the Telltale Game series.
What almost all critics have agreed upon is that it presents an engaging and powerful storyline, with greatly developed characters placed in intriguing situations oddly (or not so oddly) appropriate for Game of Thrones. If you are a fan of HBO's hit show and are anxiously awaiting the start of Season 5 (coming April 5th 2015), then look no further as this game is sure to ease your appetite, especially given the cameos made by a number of the characters from the TV series.
It has been often pointed out that the protagonists of the game series, family members of the northern noble House Forrester, appear to be facing eerily similar troubles as the Starks of Winterfell and are almost completely identical in nature to them. However, this does not detract from the rapid pace at which the audience is able to connect with their troubles, and become invested in their fate.
In spite of the amazing storyline and the sense that you have control over the lives of a number of characters that appear in the game based off of the dialogue choices you make during character interactions, one cannot expect anything in the realm of an action or RPG style game, as it plays out entirely like an episode from the TV show itself - albeit with slight hiccups in the overarching storyline, based off of choices you make for the Forresters. Readers of the book series A Song of Ice and Fire should also be warned that the game is focused entirely in the realm of the show universe. A similar warning ought to also be given to those who have no interest in the show or the books as much of the story expects you to have knowledge of the events taking place in the series, otherwise the game may seem confusing at times. This game is undoubtedly made entirely for the fans.
All in all episode one was highly captivating, and given the shocking cliffhanger we are left with, I am certainly very excited for the release of episode two.
