I'm absolutely new to MoviePilot and posting articles, so bear with me!
A little about myself; I'm into really obscure fandoms (mostly book series) and I fangirl really easily! It should be mentioned that I don't get offended easily, so feel free to blast any of my choices! I have quite the potty-mouth, so be warned, most likely there will be profanity.
I'll try to make all my articles about fairly popular material, and rest assured that I have thought long and hard about all my choices.
I decided my first article would be about the ever popular House of Night book series! This series had it's rights optioned a couple years back and I'm making this fancast on the assumption that the series will be adapted into a movie and only using characters from the first novel. I'll be sure to keep spoilers out of the article!
I suppose that's it, so let's get started!
Our beloved main character - Zoey Redbird
Now, Zoey is quite a strong character. In the novels, at 16 years old, she's been hand-picked by the Goddess Nyx to be a kind-of watch dog for the good and Light in the world. Zoey has the ability to control all five elements; air, water, fire, earth, and spirit. She has Native American heritage on her mother's side, so the actress playing Zoey will have to be able to convincingly look at least a fourth Native American.
Hear me out; I'm sure there's a lot of incredibly wonderful Native American girls out there in the big wide world that could do Zoey a great justice. That said, I can't seem to find anyone more eye-catching than Adelaide Kane. In Reign, Adelaide plays the very strong and independent Mary of Scots. She's very talented in Reign and I'd love to see her lend her skills to HoN.
Moving on to Zoey's best friend - Stevie Rae Johnson
Stevie Rae is a bubbly, country girl with a big heart and a lot of love for her friends. She stands out on the HoN campus as she is one of the only girls with short hair; adding to it that her hair is blonde makes Stevie Rae that much more innocent. Though don't confuse innocence with helplessness. Stevie Rae can hold her own. She has the ability to control the element Earth.
There are many people who would kill to see Taylor Swift in this role but I personally think going outside of the box is going to work well, especially if the role is cast well. Anna is a very bubbly character on screen and I believe she would slay as Stevie Rae.
Next, it would be wise to move on to the rest of the circle, starting with - Damien Maslin
Damien is an absolute smarty-pants with a talent for academics. He's gay and a sweetheart. He's loyal and fiercely (no pun intended) protective of his friends. Quick to correct and educate his friends, Damien is quite possibly the backbone of this circle of friends.
Nathan was completely adrokable in iCarly as Freddie. I think his personality is very close to Damien's. I think he could even pull off being really smart and would be comfortable playing a gay character.
Another member of the circle, and one half of the Twins - Shaunee Cole
Shaunee is a black girl from an upper-class family on the East coast. Shaunee found herself being marked in Oklahoma and going to the Tulsa HoN. She's on top of all the newest fashion trends and she's very sassy. She's a 'twin' to her friend Erin Bates as they think and act so much alike. Shaunee has an affinity for the element Fire.
Keke is actually not my first choice for Shaunee. I wouldn't want her to be Shaunee at all; I would actually cast her as a character that appears later in the series Kramisha. But, all that said, if she was cast I wouldn't object. Keke's very talented and could very well play Shaunee.
Last member of the circle and second half of the Twins - Erin Bates
Erin is a white girl from an upper-class family. Erin and Shaunee were marked on the same day and arrived at the HoN at the same time, thus starting a very close friendship. Erin has an affinity for the element Water.
Despite The Last Airbender being a complete flop, Nicola Peltz was a great presence. I think she could play the pompous, sassy/ghetto Erin with ease. She's got a sweet face with a lot of sass.
The bitch of the series and main 'villian' of the movie - Aphrodite LaFonte
Aphrodite (a chosen name when she arrived at the HoN) is the Tulsa Mayor's daughter. She has the position of Leader of the Dark Daughters and uses her power to manipulate people to do her bidding. Aphrodite has the gift of seeing visions of the future.
Aphrodite has to be played by someone who could play both the villian and the victim. Taylor Momsen, in my oh-so humble opinion, would be absolutely perfect for this role. I doubt Taylor would come to do this, considering that she is currently tied up with her band The Pretty Reckless and loves doing that.
Next up on my fancast is HoN's high priestess - Neferet
Neferet is the warm high priestess of Tulsa's House of Night. She becomes Zoey's mentor and like a second mother to Zoey. She is fierce and has a commanding presence. Neferet has abilities of the mind, not all specified (a slight mind-reading ability and a bit of empathy).
WAIT! Don't say anything yet! I know, I know! She's not what's described of Neferet in the books. She's actually quite the opposite. But if you've seen Jaime in Defiance, you'll know she can play someone who is very smart and coy and looks can be changed and she's super talented and I know she can do this and.. and.. please don't be mad *cute innocent smiley face here* :) Honestly, Jaime is my wildcard choice for sure. I think if anything, Jessica Chastain could play Neferet too!
Zoey's main love interest - Erik Night
Erik is the most swoon-worthy guy at Tulsa's HoN, with a great resemblance to Superman. He immediately takes a shining to Zoey and is very patient and understanding of Zoey's advanced situation. Erik has no abilities.
John Patrick Amedori
Well, I might have added another wildcard choice to my list. John, although not as described in the novels, is very talented and could definitely play the confident hottie of HoN. This one I'll understand the disagreements for sure ;)
Next on my list, Zoey's ex-best friend - Kayla Robinson
Kayla is the self-centered ex-best friend of Zoey. Once marked, Zoey realizes that Kayla isn't all about loyalty and turns on her as soon as she could. They knew each other for a long time and used to have a strong bond.
I don't even think I have to explain why she's perfect. Anna has already played a character much like Kayla - Jessica from the Twilight Series. I think she'd be the perfect choice altogether.
I'll be putting these last two together - Zoey's mother Linda Heffer and the step-loser John Heffer.
Zoey and her mother used to be close, but when Zoey's father leaves and Linda re-marries, everything changes. Linda becomes a shadow to John Heffer, a religious man who definitely doesn't like Zoey at all.
Jaimie Alexander and John Goodman
I'll admit; I'm completely bias to both these actors. I love them equally and think they would do well to play the docile housewife and the strict religious man, respectively.
Now these are just the main cast that would play a large role in the movie. There are many more characters that need to be cast that I did not - that can totally be up to you!
For sure, we'll need a Nyx, all of the Professors (Lenobia, Dragon, Anastasia, Gamy (is that even how you spell it?), etc.), Zoey's human ex-boyfriend Heath, Grandma Redbird, a few of Zoey's classmates that are important to the story - Elliot and Elizabeth, and even Aphrodite's hateful trio Enyo, Deino, and Pemphredo.
Mostly the reason I didn't cast these choices were;
1) I couldn't choose between quite a few actors
2) I wanted someone new for the role who would fit perfectly (*cough* Grandma Redbird *cough* Heath *cough*)
3) There are many different views and I'm curious as to who everyone else chooses (-Nyx-)
So let me know! What do you think? Who do you think is the best choice? the worst?
