Who'd of thought it? The quintessential 80s flick, which ludicrously but brilliantly combined elements of Sci-Fi, Thriller, Horror, and Fantasy, is 28 years old.

The film's outlandish scenes have since taken on something of a legendary status. From a peacock-like Sean Connery galloping in on horseback ("Greetings"), to hero MacLeod suddenly taking on two Nazis - we love them all!

For those of us who worship at the Highlander shrine, it is perhaps this for which we remember the film's sturdy cast, which included Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and an excellent Sean Connery.

But many of them arguably went on to star in projects that were more critically-acclaimed. Take a look below to see what they've been up to since.

Highlander - there can be only one.

Christopher Lambert (Connor MacLeod/Russell Nash)

What else can I see him in? Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes; Mortal Kombat; To Kill A Priest; The Hunted.

Fun fact: Bizarrely, Christopher Lambert had only just started to learn English when he took the role of Connor MacLeod/Russell Nash. Lambert grew up in a French-speaking area of Switzerland and his only previous English-language role was that of Tarzan, in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.

Sean Connery (Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez)

What else can I see him in? (What can't you see him in!?) Top picks since Highlander: The Untouchables; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade; The Avengers; The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Fun fact: All of Sean Connery's scenes had to be filmed in just one week due to his hectic schedule. Conenry had a bet with director Russell Mulcahy that they would not finish in seven days. Mulcahy won the bet.

Clancy Brown (The Kurgan/Victor Kurgan)

What else can I see him in? The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, A Nightmare On Elm Street, The Hurricane.

Fun fact: Brown almost turned down the role of The Kurgan fearing his allergy to make-up would prevent him from achieving the required demonic look.

Beatie Edney (Heather MacDonald)

What else can I see her in? Inspector Morse, Mister Johnson, Lost Empires.

Fun fact: Virginia Madsen, who was voted as one of the most beautiful actresses in 1986, also auditioned for the role of Heather MacDonald but director Russell Mulcahy opted for Edney.

Roxanne Hart (Brenda Wyatt)

What else can I see her in? The Verdict, ER, Law & Order.

Fun Fact: Brooke Adams was the original choice for the role of Brenda Wyatt.

Hulk Hogan claimed he was offered the part of Connor Macleod but turned down the role to concentrate on his wrestling career.*
