If you are reading this, then I am 1000% sure that you are aware that there is a monumental movie in the works, and that is Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. This movie will crash to the earth next December. We know little about this movie, but we have seen a teaser trailer and saw the cast that was announced. If you are some-what unsure on the cast then this article will help you get up to speed of the talent in this great ensemble.
(for added effect play this in the background)
Okay, we're good to start!
Oscar Isaac is one of Hollywood's hottest properties and my favorite actor of the new cast. I loved him [Inside Llewyn Davis](movie:250255) and he had some good moments in Drive also! His characters name is Poe Dameron and little is know of this guys backstory. He is an incredibly grounded actor who can sway an audience single-handed. He plays an annoying cynic in Inside Llewyn Davis, yet us as the audience still ray towards him and stay on his side through-out which is a great attribute to have as an actor. In the trailer we saw him coasting in his X-Wing as an apparent Rebel which shows where he stands in the movie. I'm sure he will be a very important asset in the trilogy and could go on to be the main star of it all. Expect this guy to propel to super-stardom as he will also be playing Apocalypse in [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267).
Widely regarded as the main star of Episode 7, John Boyega is an actor deemed for high prospects. You may recognize him from: Attack on the Block and My Murder. At only 22, this young man has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to perform. He is the first face we see in the pacing trailer and leaves many with tons of questions. His characters name is Finn and many people have clung on to a fan theory for his back-story which is fairly plausible. It goes like this: Finn is part of the storm-trooper regime and realizes that it's not what he wants from life, and so he decides to quit and just leave. Which brings him to the opening scene in the trailer where he looks lost, stranded and confused. It makes perfect sense for this main star of the movie. I hope he does well because he certainly has the potential to be great.
Driver is another extremely important star to the franchise and is another prospect I'm dearly excited to see on-screen! He has wow-ed me in movies like: What If and Inside Llewyn Davis. He is most likely playing a villain in this movie and many believe that he is the figure we see in the trailer, which would make sense on his given built and stature. He is a promising, diverse actor who could anchor this movie for an iconic villain. At the age of 32, he is finally coming in to his own as an actor in Hollywood which is much deserved.
Fellow Irishman Domhnall Gleeson is another new-ish actor to be gracing the big budget Episode 7. You may recognize him from Harry Potter where he played Bill Weasly. That shows that this guy is not shy of big franchises as Harry Potter is almost as big as they go! Son of Brendan Gleeson, means he has the talent in the family and I'm excited to see what he can bring to the Star Wars franchise. Little is known of what kind of character he will play, but judging on his other roles, I presume he will not be on the Dark Side.
Andy Serkis is an actor that even if you think you don't know him, you do. He does a lot of motion capture acting that you will be more familiar with that you think. He played the bad-a*s Caesar in [Dawn of the Planet of the Apes](movie:322904). He also plays the iconic Gollum in the Lord of The Rings trilogy. These various roles may suggest that he will be playing a character done by motion capture, although this isn't confirmed. What is confirmed on the other hand, is that he is indeed the voice in the teaser trailer that we all witnessed recently. This is quite interesting because the person in the trailer looks quite villainous which suggests that we may get a sith out of Serkis.. Which would be pretty neat.
If you're a movie fan then you really should know this fantastic actress. She has bucket-fulls of raw potential waiting to be fully explored on screen. If you don't know Lupita, you may remember her from her incredibly intense role in: 12 Years a Slave. She even won an Oscar for her great performance! On the note of Star Wars, not much is known on which side she'll be on, but I really think this girl is too innocent and decent to be on the dark side so I reckon she will be a goodie. Although, in saying that, I would love to see her explore some dark roles and become a sith herself.. She could be just as intimidating as a dark side ally.
- Mark Hamill (Luke Skywaker)
- Harrison Ford (Han Solo)
- Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia)
- Kenny Baker (R2D2)
Thanks for reading! I hope you're as excited as I am to see this fantastic ensemble come together to make [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158) potentially the highest grossing movie ever!
