Without question, [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469) is getting more exciting and intense; it's hitting a vibe closer akin to that of the movie universe to which it is connected. Though, the question still lingers; we've seen Nick Fury and Maria Hill - how long before we get other well-known big-screen butt-kickers?

In particular, one possible (likely?) Avengers arrival has been hinted at in a big way; with the arrival of Mockingbird on the scene, many fans must be thinking, Hawkeye's appearance can't be very far behind. In recent rumblings, their beliefs may very well have been subtly confirmed.

"You're not Coulson. Coulson is dead."
"You're not Coulson. Coulson is dead."

The above picture was posted by Clark Gregg himself on Facebook. And while some might write it off as innocent (after all, wouldn't you post pictures of yourself all the time, if you played a kick-butt character like Phil Coulson?), this image seems to bear a particular weight.

You think not? Okay, let's look a little deeper, shall we?

Hawkeye Doesn't Know Coulson is Alive

The last time we saw Hawkeye (and more importantly, the last time Hawkeye saw Coulson alive) was during the Battle of New York. One of the very starting premises of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is that Coulson's return from death has been kept secret. But the Avengers are bound to find out, right?

In a world where impersonators and masters of disguise abound, and a man shows up looking like your dead friend, the next confrontation between Hawkeye and Coulson might look a lot like the picture Mr. Gregg posted on Facebook.

Are Marvel Setting Up The Avengers Age of Ultron?

The folks at Marvel obviously love to do a lot of set-up for events to come. They've done Easter eggs in each movie, and many of those hint to movies that are on their way down the line. Now, hints are dropping on Agents. Of course, the current arc hints at [The Inhumans](movie:910490) for 2018, but short-term matters, too!

As great as it is to continue the hype train from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, or get folks excited for The Inhumans, the Marvel folks would be remiss if they didn't also hint at the incoming [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035). How better to do that with than by letting Coulson reconnect with one of his dear Avengers?

A Hawkeye - Mockingbird Team-Up

Team up! Hawkeye and Mockingbird have a long history in the comics, and who wouldn't love to see the two paired up, as allies, and then lovers? Mockingbird has shown herself to be quite fun--beautiful, talented and deadly--and Hawkeye's trademark brand of butt-kickery could use elaboration.

And if THAT doesn't fit your fancy, just think: What do Phil Coulson, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Black Widow, Daisy Johnson and Nick Fury all have in common, besides status as SHIELD operatives? Membership in the Secret Avengers.

That's right. Hawkeye's appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could lay groundwork for a Secret Avengers movie or Netflix series down the line.

Overall, in a TV series primarily about Marvel's talented but non-powered Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and in a universe where Hawkeye has otherwise come across to many fans as dreadfully underused, the character would make a great addition, even if only for the occasional episode's appearance.

Jeremy Renner (the actor who plays Hawkeye) has already expressed interest in making an appearance on the show. So why the heck not? Bolster the live-action Hawkeye's kick-butt cred on TV, pander to fans AND newcomers with an awesome and totally relevant plotline, and help set up Marvel projects to come.

It all sounds good right? Or did you have different ideas in mind for Hawkeye? Let us know in the poll and comments below!
