Bloated. Abrupt. Forced.
These three words condense my thoughts on the final installment of not only The Hobbit trilogy but the Middle Earth saga as well. You know when you watch the deleted scenes in the special features of a film and think to yourself “Yeah, I can see why this was cut”? Imagine sitting through a 144 minute movie that’s full of them. Peter Jackson’s faults as a director are mind numbingly apparent here and instead of leaving Tolkien’s world behind with the audience clamoring for more, they will be glad Warner Bros doesn’t own the rights to the Silmarillion.
