The ancient debate over which franchise is better continues with an analyses of the two franchises pro and cons. This post will look at individual parts that make a good movie and see which franchise comes out on top at the end.

Note: This is my opinion. You are free to make your own post expressing yours and I will read it.

Round 1: Story

Star Wars:

Episodes I-III tells the story leading to rise of the Empire and the creation of one of the greatest villains in movie history.

Episodes IV-VI continues the story with a rebellion fighting against the Empire that has been formed in the previous films.

Star Trek:

All Star Trek movies and shows follow a group of people exploring new worlds and going where no man has gone before, and action and adventure finds them.

Which is Better:

While Star Trek's premise is a sound one, I have to give this point to Star Wars. The war between the Rebellion and the Empire gives the characters a larger goal to destroy the Empire. Making it more noble than just flying around the galaxy.

Point: Star Wars

Round 2: Characters

Star Wars:

Episodes I-III have characters we don't talk about.

Episodes IV-VI while few, have great characters. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are very memorale action heroes, with Princess Leia as one of the best female role models, and actually funny comic relief in Chewbacca, R2D2, & C3PO.

Star Trek:

The Enterprise has had one awesome crew after another from the Original Series (including the J.J. Abrams films) to Enterprise. With numerous captains and others.

Which is Better:

Sorry Star Wars fans. But this round belongs to Trekkies, or Trekkers. Star Trek has had countless more characters with a greater diversity (the only non-white human characters in Star Wars are Lando and Mace).

Plus, Star Wars brought......him:

Point: Star Trek

Round 3: Action Sequences

Star War:

Episodes I-III, love the or hate them, have some of the greatest sword (light saber) fights ever. With space fights equally as good.

Episodes IV-VI don't have as good light saber fights, but still good. The space scenes, although, are still great.

Star Trek:

This franchise has gotten a legacy of funny, awkward, and cheesy action sequences. That is, until J.J. Abrams retold the story in his films. Creating many action sequences that will get the adrenalin running.

Which is Better:

Star Wars. Congratulation prequels. You finally payed off. Next one.

Point: Star Wars

Round 4: Effects

Star Wars:

Episodes I-III are almost all CGI. With little to no practical effects.

Episodes IV-VI used to be nothing but practical effects. But one remastered version after another caused them to be pointless scenes just there to introduce new CGI.

Star Trek:

When Star Trek first came out, CGI didn't exist. So had to use practical effects. This continued with CG here and there. Then came the new films. With so much CGI.

Which is Better:

Both started with eye pleasing practical effects. Then dwindled into cheap CGI. Let's call this a draw.

Point: Both

Round 5: Sequels/Prequels

Star Wars:

Star Trek:

Which is Better:

Just give it to Star Trek

Point: Star Trek

Round 6: Vehicles

Star Wars:

Both trilogies have more awesome vehicles than I can count.

The Millennium Falcon, Death Star, Podracers, and more.

Star Trek:

I remember the Enterprise and...that cube Borg ship.

Which is Better:

There's going to be a lot of hate comments for not knowing many Star Trek vehicles, but Star Wars.

Point: Star Wars

Round 7: Memorable Deaths

Star Wars:

People who watch these films will see the death of multiple characters. Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, & Qui-Jon Jinn, just to name a few.

Star Trek:

So many primary characters die in this franchise. Spock, Data, & Kirk.

Which is better:

While Star Trek doesn't have as many deaths, they are more emotional. Each death is heart felt since most are sacrifices. Unlike Star Wars where someone gets stabbed, people yell, and there's a fight.

Point: Star Trek

Final Scores:

Star Wars-3.5

Star Trek-3.5

Wait, there can't be tie. One has to be better than the other. Or does it...

Both franchises has survived years and continue to be loved by many. They both have strong fan bases that will defend it to their dying breath. Creating the bases for the nerds of today becoming cool. The fight will continue till they die. Then, fans of their new films will continue the fight. These fans will "Live long and Prosper." So be part of the fight, have an an opinion, and "May the force be with you."
