Okay, folks! The announcement was just posted and announced NINE HOURS AGO that the star of stage, screen, and television has been chosen to be this year's Oscar host directly via oscar.go.com!

According to the show's producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, and this was what they had to say about this year's emcee choice:

"We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars," said Zadan and Meron. "We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage."

Apparently, the Academy's current President, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, was as pleased as they were, and had this to say about the decision as well:

“We share Craig and Neil’s excitement in welcoming the incredibly talented Neil Patrick Harris,” said Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Academy President. “He is the consummate entertainer. Neil’s distinctive charm and showmanship make him the ideal host to honor the Oscar legacy and insure we all enjoy another unforgettable celebration.”

Now, that's what I call 'major kudos'. And who wouldn't be honored to be able to host the biggest night in Hollywood? Harris has really had a great career so far, and I never would have thought that old Doogie Howser, MD, would have went very far?

Harris had his own comments to make about his selection, and from what he has told several other sources, he couldn't be happier! :

“It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show,” said Harris. “To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen Degeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”

The fact that he even pinpointed some of the other greats and showed respect to them all, that alone tells me that he doesn't only have talent, but the guts and grit of being one of the greats that have had the honor to get this truly coveted spot.

With all of the Broadway experience that he has and the fact that he is an expert singer, dancer and entertainer, I have a feeling that we are all in for a treat! As for me, I am definitely going to go all out this year and spare no expense for Oscar Night!

I'll keep you posted with more news as it comes in!
