When it comes to classic Marvel superheroes, they don't come all that much more classic than Daredevil. From his first appearance back in April 1964 through to today, he's been at the very heart of the Marvel universe. He may not have ever been the most famous hero, but he makes up for it by being something close to the moral core of the comic-book universe. Without him - and his alter-ego Matt Murdock - a lot of what we all love about Marvel would be lost.
And so, predictably, the upcoming Netflix series starring the hero is already starting to get a whole lot of Marvel fans - this one included - pretty darned excited. After all, Daredevil deserves the chance to make his mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just as he has on its comic-book one.
Which makes these newly released images from the series all the more exciting, since...
We Get to See (What Must Be) Daredevil's First Costume
The new image, released by Entertainment Weekly, via scans by Film Divider seems to show - alongside probably our best look yet at Matt Murdock himself - a very different sort of Daredevil costume to the one long-time fans are used to.
After all, back in the day the hero dressed more like this...
Before eventually settling on the red number we know and love...
So that black outfit, if it turns out to be his costume for much of the series, could be a cause for a decent amount of uproar.
More likely, though?
That's just his starter gear - which'll get upgraded to something a lot closer to what we know and love by the series' conclusion.
After all, it seems as though we're set to see a pretty dark take on the hero. As showrunner Stephen S. DeKnight told Geek Tyrant a while back:
"With this version of Daredevil we wanted it to be grounded, gritty, as realistic as we could portray. That naturally fits in with the Daredevil character. Matt Murdock, on a regular basis, would get the shit beat out of him. That's one thing that makes him a great character. He's not super strong. He's not invulnerable. In every aspect, he's a man that's just pushed himself to the limits, he just has senses that are better than a normal humans. He is human. The other thing that really drew me to this character is that he's one of the most morally grey of the heroes... He's a lawyer by day, and he's taken this oath. But every night he breaks that oath, and goes out and does very violent things."
Though, from the sounds of it, his costume might still be a little more unconventional than we're expecting while he's doing those violent things...
Recent rumors, after all, have suggested that the hero will be wearing a much more black and red costume than usual - which suggests a pretty darned unconventional approach.
What do you guys think, though?
What costume will we see Daredevil in at the series' end?
