Ronald D. Moore's unparalleled science fiction television series is one of the best shows of all time!
When it first aired in 2004 I was blown away by its sophisticated themes, riveting storytelling and adrenaline-fuelled action! It was the perfect mix of brains and brawn, and I was crushed when it finished.
As the show celebrates its 10th birthday, I take a look back on how far the cast have come since the pilot!
Edward James Olmos as William Adama
Fun Fact: Olmos had a clause in his contract that ensured no wacky aliens or monsters would ever appear in the show, as he wanted the focus to remain on the human drama.
Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin
Fun Fact: Often photos, books, and picture frames featured in the series have their corners cut off. This was director Michael Rymer's idea, which he did to pay tribute to the way he was forced to 'cut corners' financially in line with his limited budget.
Katee Sackhoff as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace
Fun Fact: The show was so highly lauded by critics that it inspired an unprecedented symposium held by the United Nations in order to discuss the themes of race, gender, sexuality, religion and terrorism and how they related to the modern era.
Jamie Bamber as Lee "Apollo" Adama
Fun Fact: Occasionally, the main musical theme from The Deer Hunter can be heard, as in the final scene of the episode 'Scar'.
James Callis as Dr. Gaius Baltar
Fun Fact: Richard Hatch, who plays Tom Zarek, also played Apollo in the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica.
Tricia Helfer as Number Six
Fun Fact: Adama's trusty lighter was actually purchased at a garage sale.
Grace Park as Number Eight
Fun Fact: The helmets worn by the Marines in the show are actually Giro 'Bad Lieutenant' snowboarder helmets, made out of plastic rather than Kevlar.
