Last week, we heard rumors that Michael B. Jordan's name has apparently emerged on a short-list of actors that are favored to play the titular vampire-slaying hero in a Blade reboot. Of course, as with all Hollywood rumors, this one should be taken with a liberal pinch of salt, however, there is one thing which is not up for debate -- the badass-itude of the original Blade cast.
Back in 1998 there was no such thing as sparkly vampires. No, back then it was much more bloody time, and Blade was a vampire movie that was sexy in a way some of today's kids probably wouldn't understand. It was violent, stylish, and ultra-cool and in Wesley Snipes, we had a vampire hunter like no other.
It's been 18 years since we first saw Blade decapitate those vampires with a bloody relish, so I thought it was time to see what the cast look like now.
* For best results, crank this tune up LOUD!
Blade - Wesley Snipes
Fun fact: Denzel Washington and Laurence Fishburne were also considered for the part of Blade, but writer David S. Goyer only ever wanted Snipes for the role.
Deacon Frost - Stephen Dorff
Fun fact: Jet Li was the first choice to play Deacon Frost and was actually offered the role. However, he turned it down to do Lethal Weapon 4 instead.
Whistler - Kris Kristofferson
Fun Fact: Whistler was first introduced as a cameo on the Spider-Man (1994) cartoon show, but proved so popular with Marvel's CEOs that he was added into the Marvel Universe.
Dr. Karen Jenson - N'Bushe Wright
Fun fact: A deleted scene saw Karen and Deacon discuss what the vampires would feed on if everybody in the world was turned. The answer? Human's kept alive in huge blood bags. This would later play an integral part in Blade: Trinity.
Quinn - Donal Logue
Fun fact: Donal Logue reinjured his jaw during the fight scene in the hospital with Dr. Karen Jenson (N'Bushe Wright). He'd broken it a few years before in a motorbike accident.
Gitano Dragonetti - Udo Kier
Fun Fact: This is not Kier's first vamp flick. The German actor played Count Dracula in Dracula cerca sangue di vergine... e morì di sete!!! (Blood for Dracula) in 1974.
Vanessa Brooks - Sanaa Lathan
Fun fact: The sound effect you hear when the bed is opened up, revealing Vanessa, is taken directly from Aliens (1986) - the scene where Ripley and the crew wake up on the Sulaco.
Mercury - Arly Jover
Fun fact: In 2002 Jover appeared in Vampires: Los Muertos. It's not very good though.
