Hey all! So as many of you will now know, actor Idris Elba (known for The Avengers, Luther, Pacific Rim and many more) has been rumored to be cast as the next James Bond. Many people have shared their opinion on the matter online, with the majority against the casting, due to race.
Now I haven't come here just to "jump on the bandwagon", but I do happen to agree that Idris Elba is a very bad casting move for the James Bond film series. Why? Well, so far there have been several different actors to play James Bond, including:
Now although you can very easily tell these actors apart, I feel that they all have similar physical traits, and that's why the change in actor over the years has worked out well for the bond series. I feel that suddenly having a change to an African American actor would just throw the story line off track, considering that James Bond himself has been of Caucasian race, ever since his debut in 1954's 'Casino Royale'.
This kind of thing goes both ways. Could you imagine a Blade movie with a white actor? Or 'Friday' with an all white cast? It just wouldn't work would it? If these movies were to be remade with white actors, I can guarantee you now that the movies wouldn't be a 1/10th as successful as they have been with their African American cast.
I have a few thoughts on who could play James Bond next... how about....
Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises)
Dominic West (The Wire, 300)
Michael Fassbender (X-men series, 12 Years a Slave, Prometheus)
Dougray Scott (Hemlock Grove, Mission Impossible II)
Lambert Wilson (The Matrix Series)
