This past week saw the incredible machine that is the Star Wars franchise spring a leak - with figurines and two new pieces of concept art seemingly tying the design of at least one character together for us. Below, you'll find the photos and artwork, so if you're not looking for spoilers, now's your chance to check out something else.
The Figurine Photo
This first shot shows upcoming figurines for [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158) - from right to left, we see Chewbacca, BB-8, Rey, Finn, and what seems to be a brand new character. This photo comes from Chinese-StarWars.com and shows an outfit change for the stormtrooper, Finn.
Many fans have already guessed that this is Gwendoline Christie's Imperial Stormtrooper Commander, but the mask doesn't seem to fit the concept art that we've previously seen tied to that character. Concept art shifts and changes, though - so it may very well be Christie's character.
Others have decided that this is none other than Kylo Ren, the Sith villain who ignites his broadsword in the teaser trailer for the film. Given that the mask doesn't exactly resemble that of a stormtrooper - in fact, it leans much more toward Darth Vader in my opinion - this could be one of the many that this villain possesses in the film.
Why it might be Kylo Ren
This leak was followed by new concept art courtesy of Jay at IndieRevolver, who had this to say about the art:
Now that his hood has been pulled back and his facemask revealed, we thought we’d share this higher-quality image of Kylo’s helmet, as represented in its final production art:
IndieRevolver later updated with more artwork of this design:
It's worth noting that this charatcer is rumored to be a collector of Sith artifacts, and may verywell just have multiple helmets - IndieRevolver shared another piece of artwork long before the teaser released with these details, which makes me trust that more.
Could this Star Wars 7 villain have an arsenal of masks, armor and even lightsabers at his command? Kylo Ren seems more lethal every time we hear about him.
