Director Bryan Singer has given us our first peek at the new X-Men installment, [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267), and it looks awesome!
Posting on his Instagram account, Singer uploaded an image (shown below) depicting what appears to be Ancient Egypt, which as people who've read the comics will know, is where Apocalypse is set.
We can't garner too much information from it, but the dark, almost moody imagery of the Egyptian skyline, which includes a giant pharaoh and a pyramid, is enough to get us excited about the release.
According to the comics, Apocalypse is a mutant, apparently from Ancient Egypt, that has total control over his body. He can enhance his physical abilities, transform his body parts into weapons, heal from fatal injuries, adapt himself to any disease or hostile environment - he can more or less give himself any superhuman power! Actor Oscar Isaac has been confirmed to be playing the character.
X-Men fans might be wise to give Singer a follow on Instagram; back in June he also posted this snippet from the monologue:
Singer directed the first two X-Men films, and to much delight and praise, returned to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past earlier this year. Days of Future Past grossed $746 million worldwide, the most of any of the X-Men films.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.
