Although Ant-Man, which is the final installment in Marvel's "Phase Two" project, has been receiving quite a bit of hype since it was first announced, superhero fans haven't really received any solid news on the film's inner workings, until now!
A newly released promo art banner reveals what is likely to be the film's antagonist, Yellowjacket.
Before we continue to analyze Yellowjacket, let's first recap what Ant-Man is all about!
"Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world."
Sounds fun, huh? To make things even more interesting, Yellowjacket originally was the manifestation of Dr. Pym's darker alternate identity. Pym was under so much mental stress, in fact, that he ended up abusing his wife as well. A mentor figure turned bad...sounds kinda familiar doesn't it? In fact, it's somewhat reminiscent of Norman Osborn's transformation into the Green Goblin in the original Spiderman trilogy.
The Yellowjacket suit is then stolen by supervillain Rita DeMara, who later turns into a sort of antiheroine that travels into the future to join the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Yes, the Marvel universe is incredibly complicated, my friends!
Anywho, upon taking a closer look at the Yellowjacket in the banner, it looks like Marvel fans are in for a big treat!
The suit features an extra two menacing mechanized limbs that look just about ready to rip Ant-Man apart! And just look at those wings! Looks like Lang and Pym are going to have a hard time getting away from Yellowjacket with those two things strapped to its back! Unless, of course, Pym is the one behind the mask...
Now, admittedly, I'm sure some of you are still pretty skeptical about a shrinking super hero taking on the likeness of an ant. I mean come on! It almost sounds like a cheesy action hero version of Honey I Shrunk the Kids!
Skeptics of the movie might want to reevaluate before they judge the film too quickly. Rudd himself stated that "the way technology has advanced just in the last few years, picturing this world, what they can do with this kind of story line and character, [he] thought this could be something that could be very strange and hasn't been seen before." With the incredible movie technology we now have and talent like Paul Rudd acting as the star, Ant-Man definitely has the potential to surprise us!
The newest hero movie will also star Corey Stoll, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Evangeline Lilly, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Bobby Cannavale, Gregg Turkington and T.I.
Marvel's Ant-man is set to release July 17th, 2015. In the words of director Peyton Reed, “LET’S. GET. small.”
