Iron Man 1, 2, and 3 ; The Incredible Hulk ; Thor and Thor: The Dark World ; Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Solider ; all these films have produced MAJOR revenue at the box office. Marvel continues to have a hit after a hit after a hit. There is NO slowing them down… then comes along Ant-Man which is set to be released in July of next year. With filming all wrapped up, could Ant-Man be Marvel’s first movie flop in their shared universe?

With the recent announcement that Marvel has planned all their movies till 2019, everyone has seemed to have forgotten about next summer’s movie Ant-Man. This movie in my opinion is VERY risky. Most people said the same thing when Marvel declared they were making a movie based off of 2008’s comic book series titled Guardians of the Galaxy. This movie was considered risky at the time. There were not a lot of people who had faith in this film. Many people including myself were proven wrong in August of this year.

This film was FANTASTIC! The humor, special effects, acting, all was a job well done for Disney/Marvel. They took a leap of faith and knocked it out of the park. Its movie budget was around $170 million and grossed over $330 million in the U.S. alone! Source. This film blew me away much like it did with other audiences across the country let alone the world. But what about Ant-Man? Could Marvel hit another home run with this film like they did with the surprising box office hit Guardians of the Galaxy? I believe they can and here’s why:

Ant-Man will be the final film in Marvel’s Phase Two films. The other films in phase two include Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and next summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is intriguing that Ant-Man will be released AFTER the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Marvel is altering the creator of Ultron. It will be Tony Stark instead of Hank Pym who constructs Ultron. However, I believe that the film will make mention of Hank in Avengers: Age of Ultron. After all, Ant-Man will be released a few months later. Every Marvel film since Iron Man has progressed from one movie to the next. Marvel has perfectly crafted their shared universe to keep the audience from becoming confused after each movie. Ant-Man should be no exception.

I believe that Ant-Man could be one of the most important Marvel films to date (that’s not to say none of the other films were important, I’m just saying from a story standpoint). What I mean by this is that Ant-Man will be the film that will move directly into 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Something tells me that this film will be more important to the Marvel universe than people think. I do not believe that Marvel just placed this movie in there to make money or to add another avenger to the team. There MUST be a reason they chose to have this movie a few months AFTER Avengers: Age of Ultron but the reasons are so far unclear.

I do however have high expectations for this film. I think it will be a suitable addition to Marvel’s list of movies. Even though Ant-Man was never a hugely popular avenger (even though he did eventually assemble his own avenger’s team in the comics), I guarantee he will become popular immediately after the movie is released on July 17th, 2015.

So are you guys excited for the movie Ant-Man? I know I am (not as much as Avengers: Age of Ultron however) but I still think this movie will be awesome in a more comical less serious kind of way. Share what you think in the comments below!
