Ladies and gents rejoice! HBO's critically acclaimed fantasy series [Game of Thrones](movie:817617) isn't dead! Well, I mean you already knew that with the Season 5 announcement a long while back, but with the season having to cut some characters and plotlines from the season due to time constraints (mainly because George R.R Martin's next book is not yet finished) and the fact that it cost HBO a MEGATON of money to produce the seasons, everyone's always been a little worried for the show and grateful when a new season is announced.
But the news I am sharing with you all today is sure to assure you that GoT isn't going anywhere, anytime soon! Apparently, Game of Thrones is coming to the big screen! And not just the regular big screen, a normal old theater screening is too bland for a show like GoT. But it looks like the epic fantasy series is making it's way to IMAX screens! That's right, IMAX!
But before you go preparing yourself for an ultimate super-long GoT IMAX marathon lasting quite a few days, there are only two episodes that are being brought to theaters. But you'll be delighted to know that the two in question are some of the biggest of the show's episodes to date!
"The Watchers on the Wall," Season 4's biggest episode, both in popularity and in budget, is among the two being screened. This episode was the most watched and nearly broke the view counter, skyrocketing GoT's already massive popularity! It's battle sequence was shot by director Neil Marshall as if it were a film, using cinematic special effects and techniques rarely used in television; this episode is largely compared to that of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film series. Not to mention it gave Sam Tarly the heroic recognition he deserved!
"The Children" is another episode to be screened, and though it's no "Watchers on the Wall," it is incredibly popular. This is due in part to the ambitious and at times sad and tragic scenes it has. From Shae and Tywin's deaths at the hands of a distraught and heart-bruised Tyrion, to the Hound and Brienne fighting due to a bit of miscommunication. And even though it happened two episodes prior, "The Children" still managed to keep us in a state of shock after Oberyn's unexpected death by The Mountain!
Besides the episodes, IMAX will also screen a special teaser for the fifth season (or series if your British and just say things super awesomely) of Game of Thrones.
Still not certain if HBO plans to keep GoT? Well besides the massive amount of moolah it no doubt took to seal this deal and vamp up the episodes for IMAX viewing, this will be the first time a television series has been screened in the IMAX format! So, though Game of Thrones may be on a thin line, it's a line made of...well whatever it is they make the lines for Zip-Lines with. My point is, Game of Thrones is safe and secure, for the time being!
While a release date for Season 5 has yet to be announced, you can check out these two amazing episodes in stunning IMAX viewing starting January 23rd! So, make sure to look for the nearest IMAX theater and get ready to be excited!
