If you were in doubt that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII - A Force Awakens would be featuring some kick-ass martial arts action scenes, then this news is likely to change your mind. According to Twitch, three of the Indonesian martial arts experts from The Raid and The Raid 2 will feature in some capacity in Episode VII.
According to Todd Brown, who worked as a producer on The Raid, Iko Uwais (Rama), Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog/Prakoso) and Cecep Arif Rahman (the assassin from The Raid 2) have all joined the production.
It is currently unclear what their exact role will be, but there are several possibilities. They could of course be used for stunt roles in some extended fight scenes, their skills could be being used for motion capture, or they could just be choreographing or advising action scenes.
Although all three appeared on screen, they all also played a major role in setting up the various fight scenes of The Raid and The Raid 2. Whether they're onscreen or not, this almost certainly means Star Wars: Episode VII is going to feature action scenes like we've never seen before.
If you haven't seen The Raid or The Raid 2, then I'm almost certain someone has already told you that you should. The Raid is certainly one of the standout action movies of the last 10 years, and features some fight scenes which make you feel fatally inadequate for not being a badass, criminal-stomping Indonesian SWAT team member.
If you need any proof of what these guys can do, here is a video showing two of the rumored cast members, Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian, having a bit of a scuffle in a dingy backroom:
Now imagine that, but with lightsabers!
Now, I have to pour cold water on everyone by explaining this news has yet to be confirmed by any official sources. However, considering it came from a producer of The Raid, we can at least place a healthy level of belief behind his claims.
The inclusion of The Raid franchise stars in Star Wars: Episode VII is...
