Star Wars: Battlefront is yet to receive a release date for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, though we do have the vague date of 'Holiday 2015' to cling to. There will hopefully have been a tremendous year of gaming behind us when we load up that disc, but if presented with a choice, which title would you look forward to more: Star Wars: Battlefront or EA's Open World Star Wars game?
In recent years, the only Star Wars related creations that the masses were looking forward to were Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. The former was never got its release date, and the latter disappointed a lot of people (though the game really has grown since it became free to play). But now that we have J. J. Abrams' new trilogy on the way and DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront, 2015 is going to be a great year to be a fan of this universe.
Star Wars: Battlefront vs EA's Open World Star Wars Game
So what lies in store for us with Star Wars: Battlefront? As of yet, the information we've received has been unfortunately scarce. We're aware that there will be a minor connection with the [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158) , though nothing with regards to canonical narratives, more in the sense of easter eggs and perhaps even characters or ships.

But is Star Wars: Battlefront the EA game that you'd select over the prospect of an open world Star Wars game? A while back, Kotaku confirmed the EA development of an open world game set within this universe, though we don't know exactly what the game shall entail, there are certain genres that can be ruled out.
For instance, seeing as EA developed The Old Republic, the next game is almost certainly not going to be a new MMO. It would be a ridiculous strategy to develop yet another after trying so hard to make TOR a successful creation. Therefore, can we assume that the game may follow the model of GTA V, or even Dragon Age: Inquisition?
Imagine leading your own party of varied Star Wars individuals. Take the lead as a Jedi, or Bounty Hunter or even a Wookie. Just as in DA: Inquisition, we would be able to switch control over these individuals in battle, mixing up the combat in beautiful ways. Besides, even GTA has demonstrated that people aren't going to be all that excited to go back to an open world adventure with only one kind of character to play as.
So, does this kind of idea intrigue you more than the prospect of playing another FPS? Or is Battlefront the game you've been waiting for for years? Let us know which Star Wars game you'd be up for playing first in the comments!!
