Half-Life 3 is still killing us softly with its lack of release date for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. We've also heard nothing from Valve regarding the [Half-Life](movie:765408) film that they were in talks with J. J. Abrams about. What would the film have been about? Would you choose it over Half-Life 3 if it showed us the 7 hour war?!

With such a long gap since Half-Life 2, we've all needed to keep the fan base actively engaged with the series. Let's face it, if we all just forgot about Half-Life all together and then saw it released it would be nowhere near as exciting as the day that we go online and realise it's on the way. And trust me, that day will come!

Half-Life 3 vs Half-Life Movie!

Naturally, the Half-Life movie could never be a continuation of the conclusion of Half-Life 2, Episode 2. The plot would make no sense to the millions who've never played the games, and a production studio isn't about to ostracise a huge portion of their potential audience. The only way that the narrative can be continued, is through the medium the series was created for.

But where exactly would the film have taken us then? More than likely it would have been an adaptation of the game that started it all. But what if it took place during the Seven Hour War?

The Seven Hour War was a brief but decisive confrontation between the Combine and the governments of the Earth, ultimately leading to a large human death toll and the Combine occupation of the entire planet. After the war ended, the Resistance was formed to combat the new Combine leadership. The event was briefly referenced in Half-Life 2.

Just got a horrible thought...imagine if Valve released a 7 Hour War Game after all of these years instead of continuing the story after the death of Alix's dad...Jesus...that would be unbearable.

But if you were confronted with the two options, would you opt to see such a momentous occurrence on the big screen (naturally the film wouldn't be 7 hours long...or would it)?! Or are you pining for the return of Alix and Gordon Freeman more? Of course, both would be the ideal option, but I'm always interested in what fans think about their favourite series!
