These days celebrities are spending more and more of their lives in the spotlight, constantly under scrutiny from the public eye. Considering this, it's not hard to see why often completely baseless rumors often take root and spread like wildfire.
Over the years there have been some truly amazing and unbelievable stories swirling about some of our favorite and even most iconic celebrities in Hollywood, but were they all true, or just baseless lies?
Take a look at the weirdest urban legends concerning Hollywood's brightest and find out the truth for yourself:
Jack didn't know jack
Despite being the most nominated male actor in the history of the Academy Awards, that didn't mean that notorious bad boy of Hollywood Jack Nicholson didn't also have his share of twisted family secrets.
Rumor has it that the people Jack thought were his biological parents were actually his grandparents, and that the woman he thought was his sister was actually his mother. Whoa! Talk about intense.
This rumor might seem a little too much like the plot of a movie than real life, what do you think?
Do you think the rumor about Jack Nicholson's sister being his mother is true?
Answer: True! At age 37 Jack Nicholson discovered that the woman he thought was his sister, was actually his mother! June Nicholson was only 16 or 17 years old when he was born, and her mother insisted on bringing up the baby so that June could pursue her dancing career. Nicholson only learned who his true mother was during an interview in 1974 for TIME Magazine when the journalist informed him. However, by the time he was told, both his mother and his grandmother had died.
Andy Garcia was born with a little extra something
This one sounds like something out of a sci-fi film, but apparently Godfather III actor Andy Garcia was born with a parasitic twin attached to him!
Though there are instances of this happening, the chances are quite slim and quite frankly, it's all a bit scary, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
What do you think? Are the odds of Andy Garcia being born with a parasitic twin in his favor, or is it too crazy to be real?
Do you think the rumor about Andy Garcia having a parasitic twin is true?
Answer: True! Andy Garcia was born with a malformed parasitic twin, about the size of a softball, attached to his shoulder. It was surgically removed soon after he was born and he has no memory of it, though he does still have a scar on his shoulder.
Jamie Lee Curtis is more than a woman
This is one rumor that has been around for years and years. According to reports, Jamie Lee Curtis was born intersex and had to undergo an operation to become legally female. Her ambiguous gender is why she was named Jamie Lee, a name that works for either sex.
Even more weight is given to this rumor by the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis's children are adopted and not biologically her own. Could this be because she is unable to bear a child, or simply because she was trying to give back to the world.
What do you think about this outlandish rumor?
Do you think the rumor about Jamie Lee Curtis being intersex is true?
Answer: Unconfirmed. Despite persistent rumors over the years, this is one that has never been addressed by Curtis or her family. We could either take the silence to mean that they consider the rumor so absurd that it doesn't warrant a reply, or maybe silent confirmation. Either way we don't know for sure.
Charlie Chaplin: Rest in Pieces
Even in death, funny man Charlie Chaplin couldn't get peace. The rumor is that shortly after the actor died in Switzerland on Christmas day, 1977, his remains were stolen and held for an extortionate ransom!
Do you think grave robbing seems like a crazy rumor belonging in the 19th century or did someone really rob Charlie's grave?
Do you think the rumor about Charlie Chaplin's remains being robbed is true?
Answer: True! on March 1st, 1978 two people dug up his coffin and held his body for a ransom of up to $600,000! Luckily the two were caught two months later and Chaplin's coffin was found in a nearby village on the Eastern tip of Lake Geneva. The criminals responsible faced over seven years in prison as a result.
This longstanding rumor started in the mid-80s, and claims that Richard Gere had to undergo an emergency surgery resulting from a gerbil being stuck in his, ahem, rectum.
Apparently the act of 'gerbil stuffing,' where one forces a gerbil into their rear end for sexual gratification, is a thing, and it is, or was, a thing that actor Richard Gere took pleasure in doing on at least one occasion!
While this rumor is one of the most famous in Hollywood, is it too crazy to be true?
Do you think the rumor about Gere and the gerbil is true?
Answer: False! There is a no evidence in any medical journal to support this rumor (and let's face it, a gerbil up the bum definitely would have made it to a medical journal, even without the added star power of Richard Gere). Even way back in 1993 there have been documented 'fake news' stories with this rumor, often with patients other than Richard Gere, circling on the internet.
Sylvester Stallone the stallion
This rumor sounds pretty outlandish, but apparently some of Sylvester Stallone's first on-screen credits come from starring in various forms of porn!
In the very beginning of his career, a young Stallone was incredibly poor and, unable to book any mainstream acting roles, instead turned to alternative options!
Does this sound like something you think Sly would have done, or is it almost too good to be true?
Do you think that Sylvester Stallone really did star in a porn movie?
Answer: True! In a Playboy interview in 1978 Stallone confirmed that he had starred in both the soft core porn film, The Party at Kitty and Stud's (starring as title character Stud), and the off-broadway erotic play Score. He told Playboy that he was so poor "it was either do that movie or rob someone, because I was at the end – the very end – of my rope."
