Throughout cinematic history there have undoubtedly been moments of blood-curdling terror, spin-tingling tension, and mind-bending mystery. Some combined all three.

Everyone remembers the sheer distress with which we watched Alex De Large beating a man almost to death and raping his wife while singing and dancing to “Singin’ in the Rain” in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange.

But sometimes, real life is far more disturbing.

Listed below are 5 of the most disturbing videos to be found on Youtube. The list includes a suicidal doomsday cult, an experiment in reviving dead animals, and an interview with a serial killer. They're not for the squeamish.

1. Initiation video of the doomsday cult, Heaven's Gate.

On March 26, 1997, police in a rich suburb of San diego, California, discovered the bodies of 39 members of the cult named Heaven's Gate. All of whom had committed mass suicide in order to reach what they believed was an alien space craft following Comet Hale–Bopp.

The creepy video shown above is of the cult's leader, Marshall Applewhite, explaining their decision to commit suicide. He prattles about anti-christs, anti-gods, and lots of other gibberish in a rather unsettling way.

Perhaps the strangest thing is that Heaven's Gate's website from 1997 is still up and running, click here to see it.

2. A gigantic cluster of Daddy Long Leg spiders.

A word of warning: this video will cause you to itch all over; in extreme cases you may fall off your chair, believing their to be hundreds of spiders running across your neck.

This giant formation of daddy long legs was found in a tree near a stream in Nogales Arizona. Apparently, they all clump together like that to keep warm during winter.

3. A weird Soviet experiment to revive dead animals.

Stalin's regime brought many baffling examples of Soviet propaganda, none more so than this video showing a supposed experiment to revive dead animals. It worked perfectly, apparently.

4. An interview with serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer

This bone-chilling interview with notorious serial-killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, gives a fascinating insight into the mind of a real-life serial killer.

Daher was convicted of the rape, murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

Here, he talks about how mutilating animals as a child deeply disturbed and fascinated him in equal measure. He shows little emotional remorse for the truly horrifying crimes he committed.

5. The creepiest chemical reaction ever.

This is what happens when 'Mercury(II) thiocyanate decomposition' (no, I don't know what that is, either) is heated.

Whatever it is, it looks disgusting.

Which video creeped you out the most?
