Hi, everyone. This is my first post and I'm very excited. I would like to thank Mike Fleck for supporting my idea and convincing me to become a creator on Moviepilot.com. I'm writing this post to share with everyone an idea that popped into my head last night while watching the release of the 1st "Full Look" at Ant-Man, and to see what everyone else thinks about it. Now, without further ado, let's get started!

While watching the teaser last night, I thought to myself about all that Marvel has accomplished thus far. And yet people still think this movie could be a risk. Take Guardians of the Galaxy as an example: Marvel took a comic book that hardly anyone knew about and made it into a hit. I go around the internet and see everyone talk about how Ant-Man isn't cool, and that too many people dropped out of the movie, etc. I'm not saying this movie is going to be terrific. I'm not saying it's going to be horrible, or anywhere in between. What I do think, though, is that perhaps the movie would have worked at a sooner date.

Back in 2003, when Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish began writing a treatment for Ant-Man, there were a bunch of extraordinary superhero flicks. The X-Men franchise started. Spider-Man came out a year before. Regardless, The Hulk didn't turn out too great, but Marvel sure turned that around later. Then, came Iron Man. People weren't giving the film a whole lot of credit when it was first announced. The movie came out later on and shocked the world. After that, they released The Incredible Hulk and started paving the way for The Avengers. Before that though, back in 2006, Marvel approached Wright to direct Ant-Man. From there out, a long process of pre-production rolled through Marvel Studios.

Now, back in 2010, Iron Man 2 came out. I don't know if the movie was planned or if Marvel decided to throw it in, but I believe we could have lived without it. Don't get me wrong, I love the Iron Man films, and whether you like them or not is your opinion, but I feel as if the movie could have been replaced with [Ant-Man](movie:9048). We would have had a fresh, new character to introduce and an original member of The Avengers in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). It would have opened up a door to a bunch of possibilities as well, but it would also have causes some things that we've seen thus far to be put on hold.

What if Ant-Man had come out earlier?

I realize that the Ant-Man movie focuses on Scott Lang's story as the hero, but I think it would have been interesting to maybe start off with Hank Pym donning the helmet first in a 2010 movie. Then, in the sequel, just like Iron Man 2, we could have gotten a chance to see the main protagonist's famous sidekick, the Wasp/Janet Van Dyne, introduced. Iron Man 2 and this make-believe sequel to Ant-Man all would have been a part of Marvel's Phase 2, along with [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) and Thor: The Dark World. We could have had 80% of the original Avengers in one movie. Now, 3 years later, and we still don't get to see Ant-Man team up with our other heroes until maybe 2018.

Imagine The Avengers: Age of Ultron with Ant-Man and Wasp. It would just be more to love about the upcoming movie! Then, in Phase 3, or at the end of the Avengers sequel, we would see Hank hang up the suit and helmet, and pass the torch on to Scott Lang. With the possibility of Cap handing the shield off to Bucky in the next film, if not then, then later. And then with all of the fresh characters (Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, The Inhumans, and a possibility of a new Spider-Man) coming into the MCU, we would be in store for a bunch of new material to keep us even more interested than we already are!

Here's my make-believe list of how I see the MCU could have been with Ant-Man back in Phase 1 and beyond...

Phase 1:

  • Iron Man (2008)
  • The Incredible Hulk (2008)
  • Ant-Man (2010)
  • Thor (2011)
  • Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
  • Marvel's The Avengers (2012)

Phase 2:

  • Iron Man 2 (2013)
  • Ant-Man 2 (2013)
  • Thor: The Dark World (2014)
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
  • [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) (2015)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (2015)

Phase 3:

  • Ant-Man 3 (2016)
  • Black Panther (2016)
  • Captain America: Civil War (2016)
  • Doctor Strange (2017)
  • Iron Man 3 (2017)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017)
  • Thor: Ragnarok (2018)
  • Captain Marvel (2018)
  • The Avengers: Infinity War - Part I (2018)
  • The Inhumans (2019)
  • The Avengers: Infinity War - Part II (2019)

Ehh... why not? I'll add it in just to keep up the 3 movies per year thing...

  • Marvel's Spider-Man (2019)

OR

  • Planet Hulk (2019)

... Hey - a guy can dream, can't he?

Anyway, that's all for this post...
