The release date for the much anticipated Mass Effect 4 is far from our grasp. But with Bioware's successful Dragon Age: Inquisition behind them, all of their focus has returned to their galactic exploration series. DA:I demonstrates Bioware's willingness to have more races as playable characters, if you could play as an alien race in ME4, what would you be?
Bioware have stated that they'll be taking us to a whole new region of space in Mass Effect 4, giving us a whole host of new characters to go along with in this new frontier. While there may very well be new alien races in the upcoming title, they are hardly going to leave behind the creations from the trilogy. These aliens are so different from one another and their lore is extensive and fascinating, but which one intrigued you more?!
Mass Effect 4 - Playable Races
Respected and efficient militarists, these creatures have a disciplined culture and a controversial past. Their release of the Genophage with the aid of the Salarians may have aided in the acceptance of their seat onto the council, but their form of genocide has led to a great hatred forming in the minds of the Krogan.
Playing as a Turian would be a guaranteed pleasure, mainly focusing on their keen battle instincts and efficiency with weapons. Garrus was the ultimate badass in the ME trilogy and the option to play as a similar character would be amazing for Mass Effect 4.
These large reptilian bipeds are an aggressive and resilient race. They have survived on their home planet, Tuchanka, from brute strength alone. They withstand harsh environmental issues, countless attacks from aggressive predators and somehow manage to thrive in this hostile environment.
Their home world was divided into war tribes, tribes that eventually led to the destruction of their world through nuclear war. Playing as a Krogan would enable the player to use the brute strength of these creatures in combat. They have an increased ability to wield large weapons and will never back down from a fight.
An impressive and highly intelligent species, these creatures were the second race to join the Citadel. Salarians possess a hyperactive metabolism; they think fast, talk fast, and move fast. Thus, they can often look down on opposing races and their sluggish nature. Though this speed and adept functioning comes with its drawbacks; a short lifespan. Salarians over the age of 40 are extremely rare.
In combat, the use of their speed and scientific knowledge would allow the player to play Mass Effect 4 as if an espionage agent. Their movements would be increased and perhaps a time slowing ability could be introduced?
The Quarians are a nomadic species of humanoid aliens known for their skills with technology and synthetic intelligence. They live aboard the Migrant Fleet which roams the galaxy in great numbers and enormous ships. They are not as strong as they could be though, as their creations, the Geth, revolted against their rule and defeated them in a great war.
Now they roam the galaxy with second hand technology and vessels. Their adept nature with technology would allow the player to utilise crafted items with greater efficiency. Perhaps explosives and other manufactured devices would serve as their main source of attack.
Often considered to be the most powerful and respected sentient species in the galaxy, these aliens are known for their elegance, diplomacy, and biotic aptitude. After the Protheans, these were one of the very first races to achieve interstellar flight, and also the first to discover and establish the Citadel.
While usually a race of peace, compromise and cooperation, their adapt nature with biotics make them a powerful lead in a battle. An increased amount of biotic abilities as the protagonist of Mass Effect 4 would be nothing to complain about!
The Drell are a reptile-like race that were rescued from their dying homeworld by the Hanar following first contact between the two. Since then, the drell have remained loyal to the hanar for their camaraderie and have fit comfortably into galactic civilisation.
The Hanar are not a great race for combat, therefore, the Drell are often used to carry out their dirty work. They are generally quiet and live remote but integrated lives. Therefore, they are keen assassins and possess great abilities when it comes to remaining unnoticed.
With so many races to choose from, it can be difficult to make a decision on what you'd like to play as. But with every species comes a new kind of fighting style. Their variations would allow for dynamic replays and each game would feel completely different.
