Were you ever in any doubt that people really, really like Robert Downey Jr.?

Well, if you were, can I point out he's just won the People's Choice Award for 'Favorite Movie Actor'... for the fourth year in a row.

But that's not the only gong he took home that night, since Downey Jr. also snatched up the Favorite Dramatic Actor award for his role in Chef.

The People's Choice Awards are, as the name suggests, the premier award show/popularity contest in which the winners are chosen by fans and members of the public - hence the use of the word 'favorite' instead of 'best' in the award categories.

With this mind, they're not exactly the Oscars, but still, it's always nice to be recognized by the public. Downey Jr. himself compared winning a People's Choice Award to getting a great CinemaScore - which is a rating that measures the audience reaction to movies.

But let's not get carried away with RDJ. Here are some of the other winners of that night.

Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Action Movie Actress: Jennifer Lawrence

2014 was an 'interesting' year for Jennifer Lawrence, but she can put all that behind her because in 2015 she won The People's Choice Award for Favorite Actress and Favorite Action Actress! I mean, who could have predicted that? Other nominees included Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy and Scarlett Johansson.

Favorite Comedic Movie Actor: Adam Sandler

Yep, despite what Sony might think, it seems people still really love Adam Sandler - although as of yet, I've actually failed to meet one of those people in person. Still, his legions came out in force to vote him the best comedic actor for his role in Blended - one of the worst reviewed movies of the year. He beat out Channing Tatum, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Jonah Hill to the award.

Favorite Comedic Movie Actress: Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy took home the prize for Favorite Comedic Actress for her work in Tammy. Other nominees included Drew Barrymore, Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz and Tina Fey.

Favorite Action Movie Actor: Chris Evans

Superhero roles continue to dominate the People's Choice Awards as Chris Evans was elected Favorite Action Movie Actor for his role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He beat out Mark Wahlberg, Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman and a no doubt solely disappointed Denzel Washington to the award.

Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress: Chloe Grace Moretz

Young star Chloe Grace Moretz was chosen as the Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress of the year for her role in If I Stay. She grabbed the award ahead of Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Meryl Streep - who dealt with the shame of defeat by going home to polish all her Oscars.

Favorite Movie: Maleficent

Amazingly, Angelina Jolie's Disney flick, Maleficent is apparently the people's favorite movie of last year. This is quite surprising since it beat much loved blockbusters such as 22 Jump Street, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and X-Men: Days of Future Past to the prize.

Favorite Action Movie: Divergent

But surely a superhero movie would win Favorite Action Movie, right? Nope, for you have discounted the powerful block-voting power of the young adult crowd. They elected Divergent over The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Favorite TV Show: The Big Bang Theory

Although Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead might dominate the water cooler, it turns out people still really like The Big Bang Theory. It was awarded Favorite TV show ahead of the aforementioned shows, as well as NCIS and Once Upon a Time.

The entire list of winners and nominees continues for, basically, forever. But if you wanted to see who won such illustrious titles as Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor, Favorite Female Country Group or Favorite TV Character We Miss Most, then make sure to head over to the official People's Choice Awards page.
