Rise of the Tomb Raider is yet to receive a release date for the Xbox One and potentially Xbox 360. It has been confirmed that the game is indeed an exclusive for these consoles, though that restriction is limited. Does this mean that the PS4 may see RotTR a year later, or two? We shall soon find out! But Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4 is set for release on the PS4 sometime in 2015, but which game has more potential?
Square Enix's reboot had a lot of people rolling their eyes upon its announcement, but as more and more details regarding the game were slowly released, we began to see what was eventually building up to a fantastic action adventure game. Naturally, on the other hand, Uncharted (especially Uncharted 2) is one of the most well regarded games on the PS3, can Uncharted 4 live up to the legacy?
Xbox One & Rise of the Tomb Raider vs PS4 & Uncharted 4
In many ways, Lara Croft's most recent adventure shared a great deal of similarities with Naughty Dog's remarkable cinematic series. Particularly when we see how Uncharted 4 was initially revealed.
The two games feature protagonists that know a great deal about history, they share a fascination in artefacts and search remote locations in the world to uncover hidden secrets and treasures. The main difference between the two is in terms of tone. Uncharted is obviously quite light and humorous, whereas Tomb Raider was a dark tale that really saw Lara be tortured for hours on end.
Both games are highly cinematic and utilise a great number of Hollywood-blockbuster-like-tropes. They are enticing adventures that follow a great hero or heroine. But which series has your attention now? Is Uncharted becoming too repetitive? Are you more excited to see how Lara uses her dual-wielding pistols in Rise of the Tomb Raider?
Nathan Drake's adventure is more likely to have the larger budget. With two of the top voice actors in video games performing their way through an exciting story, one can be sure that this blockbuster is going to be a great hit and it'll be stunning on the PS4. But in terms of gameplay, I really think I'm looking forward to wielding Lara's bow far more.
It's amazing how similar Drake's depiction above us to how Lara was always treated in her reboot adventure. She was also washed up on a beach in the first Tomb Raider with cuts all over her. Granted though, I can't see Drake receiving the severe beating that she undergoes at the hand of mother nature.
