Even before J.J. Abrams released the teaser trailer, fans everywhere were incredibly excited about the prospect of Star Wars Episode 7.

Many believe that if the movie can live up to the promise of it's trailer - and if the many rumors about the movie's plot are to be believed - then we could be about to see Star Wars return to form in the most spectacular way imaginable.

And those plot rumors just keep on coming, with the latest few hinting that Star Wars 7 could be heading in an exciting - and somewhat familiar - direction.

In order to say anymore, however, there needs to be a pretty big...

Star Wars Episode 7: Plot SPOILERS Warning

And, to get you in the mood, here's that trailer again:

So, what are the latest rumors? Well, the first that we will look at concerns that droid we met in the trailer, whose name has now been revealed to be:

BB-8: The New R2-D2?

BB-8, can he replace R2-D2?
BB-8, can he replace R2-D2?

As all Star Wars fans know, the original movie begins with Darth Vader boarding a spaceship while Princess Leia frantically uploads the plans for the Death Star onto R2-D2, and records her famous message, which ends with "Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope".

So what does this have to do with Star Wars Episode 7? Well, as it turns out, some concept art has been revealed which seems to suggest that R2-D2 is not the only droid capable of hiding valuable items.

BB-8, it seems, has a secret compartment in that soccer-ball body, in which he is able to store - wait for it - Luke/Anakin Skywalker's blue lightsaber!

This is significant because, as anyone who has followed the Star Wars 7 rumors will know, Luke's blue lightsaber is the starting point for the whole plot of Episode 7!

As far as we know it, Rey, formerly believed to be called "Kira", finds the lightsaber on Tatooine, where she is working as a junker (going through junk metal, fixing up what she can, selling on the rest). When she finds the lightsaber, though, the authorities are alerted, and a squadron of Stormtroopers as sent to find her.

Is that is when she meets up with the Stormtrooper deserter, Finn?

The other recent rumor to emerge from Star Wars Episode 7 concerned this piece of concept art, which shows what many assumed to be a new model for TIE fighter design.

New TIE Fighter, or Imperial Shuttle?

Whose ship is this?
Whose ship is this?

However, on closer inspection, those red figures at the bottom of the spacecraft's landing ramp arouse suspicion - is this really a variety of TIE fighter, or is this an Imperial Shuttle, of the type we saw bring the Emperor to the Death Star in the original trilogy?

And if it is the latter, does that mean that the Empire has not fallen?

Whatever the actual answers to these questions, fans will still eagerly await [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158).

And maybe (especially after the series of disasters that were Episode 1-3) a return to the original, with the Empire out to find some secret items hidden inside a droid, will not feel like a repeat so much as a return to home.

But what do you think? Is there a new Emperor? Is BB-8 the droid you're looking for? Write in with your thoughts below the line!
